Virtual tabletop dungeon map of the Caves of Chaos, from the classic TRS module "B2 The Keep on the Borderlands". It's intended for online play, but it can be printed out and used on the tabletop.

The digital download includes 2 maps:

  • Underground/Dungeon - JPEG file with the resolution of 10,350 by 6,750 pixels.
  • Topside - JPEG file with the resolution of 10,350 by 6,750 pixels.

The maps are designed with a 5 ft. grid, which corresponds to one inch at 75dpi. You can divide the pixels by 75 to get the number of squares for roll20 or other virtual tabletops.

If you want to print it out there are some great guides online for just that. Search for "print dungeon maps".

Jon:

Are there commercial restrictions, or once we purchase it, we can repurpose it (giving you full credit of course)?

You can use it on a stream if that's what you mean. You of course don't have a commercial licence, so you can't sell it.

Love your maps! I’m planning on the A series after KotB and was wondering if you are working on any of those. I haven’t tried making my own maps, and would much rather pay for your talent than butcher them on my own.

Hey Jon, wondering how the A series is going. About to start things off and haven't found any maps to use. Tried making my own, but it's not going well lol

I have completed the A series but there is a file issue with DMs guild. I've reached out to them and they will hopefully have this sorted shortly.

Great maps :D Finally got around to running this on role20 and ran across another bit of errata. I know how you like to keep your maps true to original so thought I'd mention it....
In the Kobalds lair(A) the storage room(3) .should have a door on it at the short end of the passageway where it enters the room.
Thanks again for all the great work you have put into these and look forward to my next purchase (probably Castle Ravenloft) :D

Question:
When you say these maps were designed for 1" at 75 ppi, did you mean the low res or high res?

When I divided out the high res at that rate, it's about 13 pages by 11 pages (in other words 143 x letter sized pages if I want to print the whole thing out. That's a whack of photo paper... did I get the numbers wrong?

I meant the high resolution version.

A letter format with narrow margins fits 8 by 10 squares/inches. The map is 138 by 90 inches. That means 18 pages vertical and 9 horizontal, or 14 by 11, yes. You could skip the pages that are empty/black. I would probably just go to a print shop and make a poster or two.

Let me know if you do print it. I would love to see a photo of that.

That's one *deleted for PG ears* big map!

I got a user made image for one of the old Italian race courses done for Formula De and got it printed as a poster. Width was about 36" x length about 4.5 to 5'. That cost me something around $45 CAD. Getting *anything* that could print a 90" width would be using brutally costly stock. I may price it, but I suspect the $$$ would be in the range of $250-500 CAD. That's awesome but I certainly don't have that kind of change, even if my party were going to spend 12 levels in this complex...

It would be epic though!

you can do a banner print on canvas for like $50-ish, and even cut it up by cave for table use. best part is printed on canvas it is durable and soda proof. :) I live mine this way.

Your maps are awesome,, I already purchased your ISotU set to run that classic campaign on roll20, and plan on getting these and others of yours in the near future. Is there any chance that we might see a map of the Keep itself added to this set?

That would be awesome if you find the time,, still grabbing these tho for now, as I'm sending my players to the Borderlands after they finish exploring Quasqueton :D
Out of curiosity, what do you use for your maps? I recently purchased Campaign Cartographer and have been dabbling with it myself,, so far my maps are crude renditions compared to yours which are gorgeous.

Also, I just noticed a bit of errata on the sub-terrain map if you want to change it or not,, just letting you know:: In the area of what is orc lair B, just off the Orc Leaders room (#12) is a small alcove (t) to the west that should be an opening simply covered with a curtain, rather than a secret door.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
