A complete, simple role-playing system in a finely detailed setting where the supernatural can exist, a dark realm where corruption is rife and evil takes many forms. None can be trusted and the concept of hidden characters creates a hidden side to every campaign. Adventurers have the potential to have many secret aspects so that on the surface they travel together innocently, but their motives are their own. Voyage to fabled lands or try to win your fortune in a harsh realm ruled by fear where outlandish and unsettling ideas may be taken as truth. Elizabethan Adventures is set in a richly depicted society that differs so much from that of today that the difference is an adventure in itself. A unique, fast combat system simulates the many fighting styles of the age. Countless professions and skills are described to help mold fascinating characters and adventures. The Players' book comprehensively details Character Creation, Professions (of which there are over a hundred), Skills (similarly volumous), Combat (with descriptive crit tables), and Injury (including a detailed section on healing and a pharmacopoeia of useful items). 164 pages. Fully illustrated in colour.

Elizabethan Adventures comes in two core books - the Players' Book and the Gamemaster's Book. A Campaign Book will follow.

I'm hesitant to jump on this without seeing the combat system. I am sure the setting information would be great but my goal is to run a game of courtly intrigue and back-alley skulduggery along the lines of the Giordano Bruno novels by SJ Parris. For that, I require a tense and dangerous tabletop fencing and pugilism simulator - or at least *emulator*.

Do you have a review, preview, or peek at the combat system anywhere?

The combat system is fairly complicated, approaching but not quite reaching the level of crunch as "Blade of the Iron Throne" or "Song of Swords." All three games appear to be going for high levels of realistic weapon combat and were written by people with strong knowledge and interest in historical martial arts. I got this game because I am such a person myself, though I can't give a true opinion of what I feel about it until I run it. I will try to sum up combat as best I can considering that.

Elizabethan Adventures relies on character's skills, and each character has an entire category of skills that are just for combat. These combat skills are divided into 1-handed weapons, 2-handed weapons, missile weapons, and miscellaneous for things that don't match the other three. Each has several skills under it, with 1-handed weapons having 14. Of note is the 1-handed skills are all paired combos (e.g. Broadsword & Shield, Rapier & Dagger). Each weapon skill has a base...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
