***KICKSTARTER***

There is currently a project on Kickstarter to get this game edited and cleaned up super nice.

The last light of the fading sun lingers, casting long dark shadows before the coming night.  The village fires are just being lit and the air is thick with wood smoke.  Children huddle in small groups and try to frighten each other with stories of dragons, wizards, witches, and other terrible monsters said to lurk in the dark forest just outside the safety of the village walls.  Men and women gather at the tavern to drink and ask one another if the rumors about the war are true.  At the very edge of the village, a stable hand is bringing food to the last of the horses.  She is the first to see them as they enter the village from the western road.  There are five of them.  Two are dressed in mail with swords hanging from their belts, one is a woman in long robes, one has a longbow and quiver of arrows on his back, and the last carries a sword with a thin blade and more knives than she has ever seen.  They walk past her without so much as a glance as they head toward the tavern.  “adventurers” the stable hand whispers to herself, but why are they here?

Night has fallen now, and somewhere in the distance, is the caw of a raven to greet it.

Raven of the Scythe is a fantasy RPG that brings you into a world of grim possibilities.  It is a world darker than some, but never sacrifices the joy and excitement of classic fantasy role-playing.

* Fast and easy play using 2d10 system.

* Classless system allows you to build the character you want to play with options available to recreate fantasy archetypes such as Melee fighter, archer, wizard, thief, priest, bard, craftsman, scholar, healer, beastmaster, and more; or build your own unique playstyle based on the choices you make for your character using a combination of attribute, skills, and favors.

* Streamlined character creation rules allow you to get into play quickly, while still allowing for a huge variety of character types right out of the gate.

* Modular system allows for both rules light characters with little more than their base stats and highly crunchy characters with a plethora of unique talents and abilities to both contribute at the same table.

* “Dim-Dark” tone forces players to face exhaustion, lasting injuries, and the constant threat of death, without devolving into depictions of bloody disembowelments or epic gore.

* Low magic setting / high magic possibilities allows the party to delve into a world of darkness and superstition regarding arcane forces, and to also master those same forces if they so choose.

* Complete Role Playing Experience including rules for; combat, magic, bardic abilities, animal companions, multiple weapons-based fighting styles, priestly powers, item crafting, alchemy, magic items, treasure, and more.

* Book of Encounters provides more than enough monsters creatures and supernatural foes to give any party a variety of challenging encounters.

NOTE

Raven of the Scythe is very much a work in progress. While the rules of the game are finished, I am still working out a few flaws. With your help, I hope that we can turn Raven of the Scythe into a quality product on par with the very best in the role-playing community. Thank you for your help

Hello James, Why have you updated this product 4 times in the last 3 days, this is getting ridiculous!
Some details about what is happening and why these are necessary would be nice.
Maybe add version numbers to your updates.

Do you mind explaining what makes this stand out from other systems?

I tried to do just that on this thread on rpg.net

https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?817515-Raven-of-the-Scythe-My-new-game-is-up

The long and the short of it is that this game takes a lot of the "standard fantasy tropes" and dials them back just a bit to hopefully create a more grounded experience without going full on "grim-dark" or "dark and gritty". Your characters are powerful, but always vulnerable. There aren't rules for bloody disembowlment, but at the same time your characters could be seriously injured by something like falling off a horse or something like that.

I hope that helps at least a little.

Why the colored underlines on page 25?

Thanks for downloading RotS. Not sure why those are there honestly, or why they are only on the one page. Hope it isn't too distracting and I will be fixing it on the first chance I get.

Ok, those strange underlines should be gone now. I have no idea how that happened.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
