Did you want to play a showdown at high noon? A fight with the cardinal’s guards? Did you want to protect the Systems Alliance from an alien horde, or hunt down the goblins that attacked a village of innocent peasants? You can do all this and more with Sword’s Edge.

Sword’s Edge is a streamlined role-playing game that allows you to simulate a variety of genres with a focus on characters and stories. Its simple mechanics allow for quick resolution but also quick preparation. From the designer of Nefertiti Overdrive, Centurion, and Sword Noir, this is a game that gives you a robust framework on which to play and then gets out of your way.

NOTE: This system requires cooperation at the table and a shared goal of telling a great story. It is the premise of SEP systems that the game experience should be fun for everyone and no player should be made uncomfortable unless that is a part of the experience of which they were informed and to which they agree. Shared respect and consideration among all participants are key to achieving a satisfying and enjoyable game for everyone at the table. If you disagree, this system and SEP games more widely are not going to meet your expectations or complement your play style.

Hi, I bought the bundle. I'm struggling with the rules a bit-page 38- how is the TN 18 arrived at in the example at the top of the page? All of the TN's in the SFX section confuse me, to be honest. If the highest rank is good then the TN base should be 17 yes? I'd love an answer.

Hi Hugh

Yup. That's an error. Embarrassing, but honestly thankful that you found it. I'll be updating the PDFs with the corrected text presently. Cheers!

i m pretty currious about the system used, i saw it runs with 2d10 (adding bonuses or maluses). But does it use Stats and feature (à la Basic RP 1D00) or traits (à la over the edge/risus) ?

Hi Jean-Frédéric

This is a quick description of the resolution mechanics from the Kickstarter page (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1153118353/swords-edge-the-tabletop-role-playing-game). There is more information there as well as on our website (http://swordsedgepublishing.ca/tag/swords-edge-system/)

Characters in Sword's Edge are made up of Qualities, which are short descriptive words or phrases. These Qualities each have a rank which provides a bonus to die rolls when the player can explain how the Qualities apply to the action the character is taking.

When attempting an action which could have an interesting outcome, the player rolls two ten-sided dice, adds the bonuses from the character's Qualities, and then compares that to a target number to decide both if the character succeeded and how well the character succeeded.

There are two example characters sheets on the Kickstarter site that you can also find here:

PS : i checked the first chapter, some stuffs reminds me a couple of other traits based system like the pool, risus, or dan bayn's wushu. I like also how the mj doesnt have to roll dice, and the motto "don't ask me, tell me".

Shortly after the Kickstarter, I my hands on review a copy of Swords Edge and wrote a review on EN World Here:http://www.enworld.org/forum/content.php?4781-Role-Play-Along-The-Sword-s-Edge

If you're in the market for an RPG which emphasizes story and/or narrative style, I don’t think you can go wrong here.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
