Pirates of Drinax: Harrier class Commerce Raider

Auf die Wunschliste >

The Harrier-class commerce raider is the starship used in the Pirates of Drinax epic campaign. It is loaned to the Travellers by King Oleb of Drinax as both a means of transportation and instrument of policy. Although the ship is advanced, it is in poor condition due to age and long years of neglect. Repairing and perhaps upgrading the Harrier is likely to be an important goal in the campaign.

This supplement presents the Harrier in more detail, along with expanded rules for repairs and upgrades, showing you exactly what life is like on board this ship - there may even be a few special items tucked away that have yet to be discovered...

Is there a typo in the maintenance cost of the Harrier? The listed cost is more than ten times the amount listed in the Pirates of Drinax Book 2.

It is also a little unclear as to what the maintenance cost can be reduced to. It says that, at the start of the campaign, the "running costs are double what a ship of this type should normally cost." Does this mean that the starting maintenance costs are Cr57,260, but it can be reduced to Cr28,630? That seems pretty steep for the start of the campaign and a guarantee that the PCs will be making rolls for Poor Maintenance after the first month.

Do we have a page count on this? It appears that almost the entire item was uploaded by accident in the preview (five pages? woops! And the "quick preview" link just shows a blank page) -- leaving it hard to imagine that much more is left to be included. Of the remaining page(s), I have some questions. The artwork and diagrams may indeed be professionally done and useful and all but is there an actual ship schematic? (Or is there one but it is just abstract and tucked away in a small corner of a page)? Are the potential repairs and upgrades only for this ship and campaign, or are they more modular, able to be used in other circumstances? Is this ship really only viable in adventures inside of the Pirates arc? It's understandable if things are tied down, sometimes things are, and the Pirates campaign certainly is fascinating.

The page count is 30+ the cover (the page count in the description is accurate). There is a ship schematic (there is a big poster of it's layout in the core Pirates of Drinax set too, it should be noted). I suppose the listed upgrades could be adapted to different ships, but this supplement is solely about the Harrier. The ship could be used in any part of the Traveller universe - or anywhere else that pertains to the Traveller rules.

I am curious about how it will turn out in printed copy. When I printed it out for my players, it actually came out as a digest sized booklet, and was quite serviceable. Are we going to see a return of the little book design?

Duh, the poster of course -- don't know how I missed that (or the page count on the right side)! This seems actually pretty hefty then.

Thanks Rory.

Eingescanntes Buchformat
