Enter a rich, original world inspired by Norse and Germanic culture. Explore the dark places where Gooblitts and Dýrverr roam. Battle against the treacherous forces of Chaos led by Orcus and The Thrir. Die horribly at the hands of greenskins while trying to get rich quick with your friends!

Mithgarthr takes its mechanics from the fifth edition of the world's most popular role playing game, but molds them against its grim setting. Characters start at zero level with just the skills they have from their mundane profession (of which there are nine to choose from) and a desire to make a better life for themselves. Players may choose from seven races including the murine Ratten and the winged, hawk-like Fjothr. Life is cheap and death comes often, but those adventurers who survive long enough to attain first level have eight iconic classes to choose from. Magic is cast using a point system, and is less common than usual. Monsters have their own magic system, drawing their power from Orcus.

This a great gritty alternative to default 5e. However, I noticed an inconsistency between “Instant Death” and taking damage at 0hp under the “Death Saving Throws”. As written a character with low HP is more likely of instant death than an unconscious character in any given round in which both take damage.

I would change it to the following simple sentence: “If you take any damage while you have 0 Hit Points, you die.” Then delete the rest of the paragraph.

Hagall, friend!

I just wanted to let you know this will be changed in the upcoming second edition. The new rules will be as such:

Instant death from massive damage will no longer be if the remaining damage is equal to or greater than your *current* Hit Points, and instead will change to equal to or greater than *half you hit point total*.

Taking any damage when you're at 0 will, as you suggested, cause instant death.

Can it be that the printer-friendly PDF is broken? The regular one downloads and displays just fine.

Weird. I've tried downloading it twice from the site today, each time with a different computer and on a different network, and the printer-friendly version downloads fine for me.

Shoot me an email (matt@mithgarthr.com) with your order number, and I'll get a working copy to you.

Now it works for me, too. I tried twice back then and it failed each time. Server fluke... Thanks. :)

Very well done. Any chance of a printer friendly version or a version where we can turn the ink eating background off?

Best,

Tom

Thank you!

Sure thing. Give me just a bit and I'll make that happen (it won't be bookmarked, but since it's for printing that shouldn't matter).

Will there be a POD. No indication of printing on website. Would rather get a PDF + Hardback discount. This game and Gooblitts deserve printed treatment.

There sure will be! Find us on Facebook, I've posted pics of the hardcover proof of the rulebook. I'm still finding little errors (mostly grammar) here and there, and I'm working on getting them fully ironed out before I commit it to print for folks.

If you happen to have already bought the PDFs, when the POD becomes available please email me at matt@mithgarthrentertainment.com and I'll make sure you get a discount.

Hi
You might want to look into this, as the name and themes seem similar.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
