Cape (plural capes): literally, a sleeveless garment hanging from the neck over
the back and shoulders; figuratively, a superhuman who has chosen to act as a
superhero. Synonyms: hero, mask, super, superhero. Connotations: ‘cape’ is
used as both a familiar and derogatory term for superheroes, who often
casually refer to themselves as capes but generally consider it a demeaning
term when applied to them by the press.

I've read all the books so far, so, fair to say I'm a fan of Mr. Harmon's.

What I want to say here...the first chapter of this book should be considered Must Read for ALL superhero gamers...players and GMs alike. It's the best expression of the context of supers and modern society. Some of it is specific to the Breakthrough mechanism...people gain powers during a highly stressful event...and some due to the transitional, recent nature of the Event which started it all. How does a super arise? How long have supers been active? These questions certainly have significant impacts on the current state of the game world, and if you've got different answers to them, your world may be different.

BUT, Mr. Harmon gives back story here, which creates a compelling case for why the setting is the way it is. The notion of the breakthrough spawns the origin-related questions for building a stronger, more completely visualized character. That part translates to other origins. The role of supers...See more

I’ve finished a first pass through both of Wearing the Cape, the Roleplaying Game and Barlow’s Guide & The B-Files and I believe I’ve finally found my Fate Superhero RPG.

I’m an old Champions player. It was my first RPG. I loved how I could make any character come to life in Champs. I still gravitate toward systems that support that level of player creativity. I’ve dabbled with Icons and Venture City, but both games were missing that range of expression.

Venture City is really good for experienced Fate players to dive right into the attached street-to-corporate superheroes setting, Superpunk. Powers are built on a Extra template. And characters are limited to two powers each. Which I found a little confusing until I realized that the player defines the powers. So Captain America has the powers Super Soldier and Adamantium Shield rather than, Super Fighting, Super Athletics, Super Strategy, etc. Just like Wearing the Cape, the power level can be scaled up by increasing the...See more

Very nice book but even on Indierevolution, the shipping costs to the UK doubles the cost of the book. You MIGHT want to consider putting a POD on Drivethru, even if it is just for the benefit of non-US purchasers.

Thank you for the suggestion, and you're right--it's something that really needs to be done. Glad you enjoy the gamebook.

Mr Harmon, I was wondering if there was any plan to offer a physical copy, be it hard bound or soft bound?

Any chance that WtC would get their own line of figures?

Not unless the game gets picked up by a larger game-publisher later; even with Kickstarter funding, miniatures-production and marketing is time-intensive work. It would sure be nice, though.

I'm not Marion, but on the google Plus list he is working on getting a print run into stores after the kickstarter backers get theirs, as well as looking at PoD down the road...

At this point I'm exploring all options, and PoD is certainly one of them. But if it does happen, it won't be for awhile; currently the PDF and the hardback edition are the two options.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
