D&D 5th Edition Monster Cards

Disclaimer: These files contain every monster available in the D&D 5th Edition SRD, and are published under the Open Gaming License. The SRD only allows certain monsters from the Monster Manual. If you want cards for non-SRD monsters or custom content, use the blank document and build your stat library by hand.

My goodness! Index cards for every SRD monster? Yes please!

I found that I was spending a lot of time writing monster stats for planned encounters before sessions, so I premade these to speed up the process. These print to on A4 pages to be cut into A5 and A6 cards.

This project took a good few evenings to complete, so If you choose to pay $0 for the cards, that's totally okay, but if you get any use out of my work, I hope you'll consider revisiting and tipping a few bucks for the labor, or take a look at my spell cards or character sheets.

UPDATE

I've included a RAR with individual stats. This will let you print only the stats you need for your session — printing instructions are below. There are also form fillable files that you can add to your collection and print in the same way.

INDIVIDUAL PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Combine desired stat blocks into a single document with an online PDF combiner. Combine the large stats and small stats into separate documents.

2. Open combined PDF in Acrobat Reader.

3. In the print menu, select Multiple under Page Sizing & Handling

4a. For the large stats, select 2 pages per sheet and landscape orientation

4b. For the small stats, select 2 by 2 pages per sheet and landscape orientation

Just a heads up - any new monsters are not legal to distribute through products like this unless added to the D&D SRD. So you can certainly make the monster cards for your own use, but Matt won't be able to add them to this product without getting licensed by WOTC

Do these cards just use black and white ink? I really like the way they look, but would want to make sure I'm not using too much ink if I printed them off.

These cards are fantastic, the layout is perfect. I’ve been working through printing the SRD monsters you’ve already typed up and plan on typing up all the non-SRD monsters.

Would you consider making the editable fields accept rich text so we could enter bold or italic text? It’s so easy to read the cards you’ve completed because of the rich text formatting and I would love to have that capability as well.

Hey Jack. Thanks! That's a good idea re: rich text, and I'll look into it, but I suspect it'll be a limitation in Adobe forms.

Agree! Rich text would also allow users to adjust the font size. Currently I can't fit all of the monster names in the name box, for example.

Excellent work! I have no idea how I managed without these cards thus far
Would you consider uploading fillable versions of both large and small cards in doc format? Its impossible to edit text in those documents without specific adobe products :)

Bonus points if you include notes about fonts used :) I really like the design!

This is excellent. Any chance you could add the animals and other NPCs, pretty sure they are all SRD (as they appear on 5esrd site).

Actually, since this is a DMSGuild product you can create cards for any monster. No need to limit yourself to SRD.

Please do! The NPC statblocks were the first thing I went for.

My only suggestion would be to make the fillable blank sheets to fill up a page. (two big ones to one page and 4 small) This would greatly help those working to add all the monsters in the Monster Manual that are not SDR.

I love these cards, but I was wondering if you'll be making the blank sheets form fillable at some point?

Hey Gabriel, I hadn't originally intended to, but there has been a bit of interest so I've just updated the files to include form fillable PDFs. Hope that helps!

Hey Matthew,

Thank you so much for making those files form fillable! I love the format of the cards, but my handwriting sucks and trying to write stats for the creatures on the blank printouts was an exercise in aggravation (my handwriting sucks).

Anyway, thanks again for the great work you do!

Hi, just purchased this and they're a great resource, thank you! I'm looking to use the blank sheets as well, however, and they don't appear to be form fillable? It's entirely possible I'm terrible at computers and wrong, but in the event I'm not, could you update the blank sheet to be form fillable? Thanks!

I just purchased these and I love them. I do have a question though. is it possible to get the (filled out) monster cards in a 4-per-sheet format? I really like blank version where you can fit 4 per letter sized sheet and wanted to know if there was a set for the pre-filled. I am looking for something that is more card sized vs. 1/2 a page sized. 3x5 starts getting a bit small for my old eyes, but 4-per-sheet looks to be about perfect.

Lovely job on this!

Thanks mate!

Ideally every card would be in the smaller style, but some of these things are just a little too wordy to fit in that format. At the front of the document you've got the larger halfpage monsters, then you've got the ones that fit in the smaller style towards the back.

I tried a few condensing tricks to get some of the borderline half pages creatures to fit in the smaller space, but it always hurt legibility. My eyes are pretty bad too, so this is about as tight as I can go text-wise.

So...as of today, attempting to download the cards to get a feel for what they look like, and the file is corrupted and won't open.

Hi! Is this a persistent problem? I just tried downloading it on a few different machines and it's fine. If you're still having trouble, message me privately on Reddit and I'll email you the PDF.

I re-installed my PDF viewer just to see if updates were the issue and now it works fine :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
