Be a good dog. Protect your home. Be loyal to those who are true. These are the words of the Code of Man.”

— Sister Picassa Collie, Shepherd of the Church of Man

Dogs have inherited the world, building the kingdom of Pugmire untold centuries after the Ages of Man are over. These dogs have been uplifted to use tools and language, and they seek to rediscover the ruins of the Old Ones. Some have learned to use the leftover technology of humanity, but they believe it to be magic handed to them by their lost gods. Others seek to create an ideal civilization, using a Code of Man compiled from ancient, fragmentary lore left behind by humanity. The world is dangerous and mysterious, but good dogs will persevere.

Some highlights of Pugmire include:

  • An evocative and mysterious setting that’s both family friendly and deep enough to create compelling stories.
  • A traditional fantasy rules system redesigned for streamlined play and easy creation of heroic dogs, with an emphasis on cooperation and action over competition and violence.
  • A variety of callings and breeds that give access to several fun and interesting tricks.
  • Rival species to interact with, like cats and badgers, along with terrifying and dangerous monsters that roam the landscape.

Will you be a good dog?

What's the physical size of the book? Is it the full A4 size that most RPGs are, or is it the smaller, Trinity-type size?

Nevermind, I see it's shown at the top when you select a physical copy.

So it's the canine equivalent of Mousegaurd?

I am looking at this and there is alot of stuff that just look like a 5e setting. Like the list of spell and magic item make me feel like they are copy and past from the player guide and the DM guide.

This is indeed a game that uses the 5e Open Game License.

Be careful though, Pugmire is described as 5th edition light. I have found that it is dangerous to directly transplant a monster from DnD 5e as they are more powerful.

I love Pugmire but it isn't an even trade when importing creatures from DnD. I'd spit ball the scale by halfing the CR with creatures from the Monster Manuel.

I made an attempt to acquire the hardbound copy from my local game store and though it appeared in the distributor's catalog, the proprietor has not been able to find one anywhere. Any idea of when the distributors will be getting more copies?

An Update!
My LGS has found a copy at one of its distributors; I should be able to get it shortly!

By the way, is there a way to tell premium apart from standard printing? I wouldn't put it past certain distributors to sell a standard copy at premium prices!

I am intrigued by this game, but am hesitant to pay $11.99 until I know what it looks like. If you could add a free quickstart document, with the basic rules to begin playing, but without a lot of the content, that would be great.

"The Secret of Vinsen's Tomb" is what you are looking for. It's not for free, but costs only 1,99$.

What's the difference between the "premium" and "standard" hardcovers? Anywhere we can see pictures?

I bought this a while ago, and finally received the book. I wanted to test my creation skills and set up a Prequel adventure (escorting young pups from the Pioneer Puppies Program) for some of my friends. It lasted about three sessions when they went off-grid! I started The Great Cat Conspiracy with my PDs (Player Dogs) meeting Heinrich Doberman.

I received the hardcover copy earlier this week and had my first session with the book last night. It was amazing!!! The group has changed several times, new dogs popping in, one dog popping in and out, and they've reached Level 3 as well as the town of Ellendonk. Everyone is very excited for the next session. Very happy with the product

Any idea where I can get miniatures, even paper ones?
Customer avatar

I even know a guy.... Jordan Peacock,
He's done paper miniatures for JadeClaw and IronClaw already.

I made some little paper ones from a bunch of dog images. My players love them!

Oathsworn in the UK make figures that would work well with this setting.

Saw the preview for "Isle of Dogs" and thought it might prove inspirational to players of this game (only speculation, as I haven't played this yet), anyway...

While the dogs in Isle of Dogs are intelligent and talk, they are regular dogs. The dogs (and others) of Pugmire are upright bipedal anthropomorphic animals that talk, wear clothes and armor, and use swords and magic.

Is it worth it to buy the PDF version and print it out or do you think it will be better to just buy the print version
Customer avatar
Tim B March 16, 2018 6:36 pm UTC
I realize this is an old comment, so maybe it's resolved by now, but I just picked up the Print+PDF and the print version's quality is really solid. I did Standard Heavyweight (color) and I'm very happy with it. This after getting the Standard Heavyweight V20 and being less than thrilled with that one, so obviously some quality issues have been improved.

I am strongly tempted to buy this in print when it comes out as a gift for my niece, but I would like to look a little at the contents first. Would there be a way you could post the table of contents and maybe a few pages here and there from random chapters to give me an idea of how its laid out and works?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
