Conan: Jeweled Thrones of the Earth

Watermarked PDF

Hither came Conan the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

Jeweled Thrones of the Earth presents seven complete and ready-to-play adventures for Robert E. Howard’s Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of. Within these pages gamemasters will find the means to take heroes across the whole of Conan’s world.

  • Explore a lost city in the steaming jungles of the south and dare to face the Feathered Ape, as well as other menaces in Devils Among Green Stars.
  • Sail across the eons to an island enthralled by a demon-goddess, and attempt to escape the hand of fate in The Pact of Xiabalba.
  • Seek unimaginable wealth within The Caves of the Dero, whose denizens harbor a terrifying secret.
  • Defend the frontier against an attack by Picts, spurred to war by an ancient evil known only as The Ghost of Thunder River.
  • Discover the secrets of a sinister thief-cult hidden within the heart of a city, watched over by The Thousand Eyes of Aumag-Bel.
  • Fight slavers in a desperate battle to win freedom and escape the horrors of The Red Pit.
  • Uncover a degenerate race lost to the desert and time, in The Seethers in the Sand.
  • Guidelines for linking these adventures together into complete campaigns.

Just starting to prep The Seethers in the Dark and noticed that Map 1 is still missing info, thought this was fixed in the last update. Any word on when it will be fixed?

In The Caves of the Dero, The second scene begins with "The room with a star is a ramp" (58). I can't find any reference to a room with a start in the text or on a map. Where is this ramp located? There is a staircase discoverable near the pond, but a staircase is not a ramp and this leads to the mines I thought.

In the Seethers in the Darkness adventure there are numerous references to annotations on the map such as potential encounters or the entrance. Examining the map none of these seem to appear. Am I missing something?

The blurb says six adventures, so why are there titles and descriptions listed for seven?

There are seven adventures, and a final chapter which gives campaign advice.

That's what I suspected, but the description says that it "presents six complete and ready-to-play adventures". Somebody ought to correct that.

They did, more importantly there's an issue with the readability of the box-outs.

Could something be done about the "torn page" background graphic? In Sumatra PDF reader and several others I've just tried it stays a pale grey making the white text very difficult to read. I've tried it in Chrome and the background renders OK in various coloured tints, which I assume is the intended look, and the text becomes readable. There's something about the colour tinting process which is screwing up in a few readers. A simple fix would be to turn the text colour in these box-outs to black.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
