Sci-fi Map Tiles

Sci-fi Map Tiles Sample ArtCreate your own science fiction adventure maps for use with virtual tabletop roleplaying applications. Design a space station, remote planet outpost, or futuristic urban setting. The Sci-fi Map Tiles pack is aimed at giving you a tool kit with which you can create your own hi-tech fantasy environments as adventure maps.

This pack of art assets provides you with a wealth of Map Tile elements that all look like they belong together with the same science fiction look-n-feel. Plus the tile design means you can assemble the tiles to build an adventure map of almost any complexity. While on its own this map pack provides all you need to build a sci-fi complex for your players to explore, your creations can be further populated with furniture, props, and objects from our Token Packs, or NPC's and Monsters from packs such as our Starship Crew token pack.

Art Assets - Raw Image Files Edition

Sample: How to buildThis edition of the Sci-fi Map Tiles pack is designed for use by Game Masters who love building their own adventure maps and want access to a toolbox of ready-made artistic material rather than the hassle of designing their own material from scratch. The map tiles within this package were designed to act as a library of art assets that a Game Master could simply just drag-n-drop onto a digital canvas to form a map.

The package contains a wealth of raw image files in JPG, PNG, and WEBP file formats. These image files form the building blocks which you can assemble into the form of a space station, science fiction fortress, alien lair, or whatever kind of adventure map structure your imagination can dream up.

To create an adventure map, start with a blank canvas in the graphics editing program of your choice (for example Photoshop, Gimp, Clip Studio, or you could even use the map-building tools inside Fantasy Grounds). Start composing the form of your adventure map by grabbing a map tile from the library, then plonk it onto the canvas right where you want it to go. Keep placing down map tiles and build up your adventure map, block by block, until you have filled the map canvas. Then export the completed map as a JPG or WEBP so that you can import the completed map into the virtual tabletop roleplaying Application of your choice (for example: Fantasy Grounds, FoundryVTT, Roll20, or D20Pro, etc).

We have a growing range of tutorials and Livestream video recordings on the Studio WyldFurr YouTube Channel that can show you how to create your own adventure maps.

What is a Map Tile?

A map tile is an art asset that represents a 5ft square area of terrain, such as the floor of a laboratory, an area of grass, or where the floor meets a wall. Each map tile is a combination of photographic source material combined with hand-drawn artwork that gives us the unique style of all Studio WyldFurr Map tiles. All of the art assets have been rendered from a birds-eye view of the landscape, with shadowing used to give the illusion of depth.

Map Tile Scale

The Studio WyldFurr range of digital role-playing tokens and map tiles all use a standard scale of one real-world inch to three on-screen pixels, for a standard 5ft map grid square size of 180 pixels. Thus each map tile depicts a 5ft square of terrain. Because of the use of this standard scale, all of our map tile packs can be employed together to give even more versatility in map creation!

IMPORTANT: This package is not a stand-alone game, but a gaming aid for designing role-playing maps for personal use. This pack of art assets is intended for creating virtual tabletop adventure maps. Build the adventure maps inside a graphics editing program (such as Photoshop, Gimp, Affinity Photo, Clip Studio, etc), then export a JPG or WEBP for importing into a virtual tabletop roleplaying app (such as Fantasy Grounds, FoundryVTT, Roll20, or D20Pro).

Hey, I was looking at the cover image of the tileset, and noticed some of them are missing from the pack itself. It looks like the corner floortiles from square room with the rounded walls are missing.

Any plans for grimdark style suitable for Wrath and Glory? Think the sci fi map tiles could work but sci fi props are always a little too hi-tech (for want of a better word).

I love this set and I'm getting a ton of use from it for my SF game. All I can say is "More please!" I don't really care for the forced perspective tokens, I prefer a completely top-down view for map items with face tokens for characters, but any and all floors, walls, doors, desks, crates, etc. are useful. Having the floors and walls as separate items is very good; as much as I like the look of HeroicMaps' materials, the fact that I can't easily pull the tiles apart and remix them makes them less useful than having the completely modular set. So kudos for that, and thanks again. If you ever create some "NOT Star Wars" tiles (a la Maps of Mastery), I very much want them.

Honestly, I do not know. If you can import images and place them down on a 180 pixel grid, I don't see why not. But at this point in time the art assets are not specifically setup for Dungeondraft. If you do give it a go in Dungeondraft, let us know how you go.

Excellent! Thank you, it was hard finding sci-fi tiles and these are pretty good. Any chance of including a DungeonDraft compatible asset pack?

Thank-you, it is good to hear your enjoying the Map Tiles. Although DungeonDraft looks quite good, at this point in time I don't have plans to specifically setup any of my Map Tiles packs to support it.

Can I ask what the difference is between the two zips? I can't figure it out from looking at the two files.

I was uploading a small update last-night that added some diagonal wall overlays. You must have been looking at the files before I had deleted the old zip file. There should only be one zip file now.

Oooohh I see what you mean, in the "My Library" section it shows the old file and the new file. The new file has the date of upload on the end. 18/04/2020 as 18042020. The other one has the upload date around the other way 20200127 is 27/01/2020. When I uploaded the new file I marked the old one to be deleted, for some reason it is still there. I'll request admin to remove the old file.

The update consists of about a dozen wall overlays for diagonal walls.

Thanks. I'd have _thought_ the 18042020 one was the newest, but it wasn't easy to tell.

If I haven't mentioned it, great product by the way; I've gotten a lot of use out of it for my Fragged Empire game before it went on COVID-hold.

Might have been hard to tell because it was only a little update of a few wall overlays.

Good to hear your enjoying the Map Tiles with Fragged Empire. I've had my eye on Fragged Empire for a while now.

These tiles are fantastic! But got a suggestion, would love to see 45 degree angled walls to create more variation of corridors and rooms. Even have a fence type wall that appears low to the ground to create the illusion of a fenced-in outdoor area.

Also any plans on making sci-fi/cyberpunk monsters and npc's?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
