Sci-fi Map Tiles

Sci-fi Map Tiles Sample ArtDo you enjoy building science fiction space stations? Or the outpost of a space traveling bunch of aliens? The Sci-fi Map Tiles pack is aimed at giving Game Masters a tool kit with which to build hi-tech fantasy environments.

This map tiles set has been designed to expand your map building tool kit with a range of Map Tiles depicting a fantasy science fiction atmosphere. Use the map tiles in the Sci-fi Map Tiles package to build a super corporations high tech lab, a space station or the insides of a spaceship.

This map tile pack provides you with a wealth of map tiles that all look like they belong together with the same artistic "look and feel" to them. Plus the tile design means you can assemble the tiles to build a dungeon map of almost any complexity. While on it's own this map pack provides all you need to build a sci-fi complex for your players to explore, your creations can be further populated with objects from our Furniture Packs, or NPC's and Monsters from packs such as our Modern Day Adventurers token pack.

Raw Image Files Art Assets Edition

Sample: How to buildThis edition of the Sci-fi Map Tiles pack is designed for use by Game Masters who love building their own maps and want access to a toolbox of ready-made artistic material rather than the hassle of designing their own material from scratch. The map tiles within this package were designed to act as a library of art assets that a Dungeon Master could simply just drag-n-drop onto a canvas to form a map.

The package contains a wealth of raw image files in JPG and PNG file format. These image files form the building blocks which you can assemble into the form of a dungeon, fortress, monster lair, or whatever kind of adventure map structure you desire.

Simply start with a blank canvas inside the graphics editing program of your choice, for example, Photoshop, or Gimp. Then start composing the form of an adventure location by grabbing a map tile from the library, then plonk it onto the canvas right where you want it to go. Keep placing down map tiles and your adventure map will take the form of a giant jigsaw puzzle.

Using map tiles permits very granular control over the form of your dungeon chambers and passageways, rather than relying on pre-constructed rooms which you cannot change. Once the structure of the map is in place, add the final touches by dressing your map with props and object tokens such as tables, chairs, statues, etc.

What is a Map Tile?

A map tile, in the context of this set, is a square of artwork depicting a specific 5ft by 5ft area of terrain. Such as the floor of a laboratory, an area of grass, or where the floor meets a wall. In order for a Game Master to build an adventure map for players to explore, map tiles are placed onto the digital canvas one by one until the desired terrain is constructed. Be that terrain a wilderness area, a secret lab, or space station.

Each map tile is a combination of hand-drawn artwork and photographic source material that gives us the unique style of all Studio WyldFurr Map tiles. All of the tiles have been rendered from a birds-eye view of the landscape, with shadowing used to give the illusion of depth.

Map Tile Scale

The Studio WyldFurr range of digital role-playing tokens and map tiles all use a standard scale of 1 inch to 3 pixels, for a standard D20Modern or D20Future (or Dungeons and Dragons) character square of 180 pixels. Thus each map tile is a depiction of a 5ft square of terrain. But we have also included smaller 50-pixel square map tiles for those of us who use the smaller 50-pixel square size.

How to use the Map Tiles?

The map tiles have been made as a kind of ready-made art pack that you can simply just drag’n’drop onto a digital art canvas to build a map. To do this all you need is a graphics editing program such as Photoshop, Gimp, or another Map Making program that permit you to use pre-created tiles to build maps. We recommend using Gimp, it is free and is a very powerful program for this task. If you are not sure about what to do, we have a tutorial about building your own maps, which we have also added to the products zip file as a tutorial PDF.

Walls Separate from Floors

With our Dungeon Map Tiles III package, we started to separate the walls from the floor tiles. We have found this gives us more flexibility with map building as we can combine different walls with different types of floor tiles to create different effects. This pack continues this style of map tile, with two different styles of floor tile and the main style of science fiction wall tiles.

"We have come a long way from the first release of the Dungeon Map Tiles Pack, all the way through some wilderness themed map tiles and Modern Day Map Tiles. Now we have the release of this package, the science fiction collection of Sci-fi Map Tiles. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for supporting my art and following my work. Thanks!"

- Tailz from Studio WyldFurr.

IMPORTANT: This pack of art assets is intended for use in creating maps for employment on the virtual role-playing tabletop. In apps such as Fantasy Grounds, Roll20, Battlegrounds, or d20Pro. This package is not a stand-alone game, but a gaming aid for designing role-playing maps for personal use only.

I love this set and I'm getting a ton of use from it for my SF game. All I can say is "More please!" I don't really care for the forced perspective tokens, I prefer a completely top-down view for map items with face tokens for characters, but any and all floors, walls, doors, desks, crates, etc. are useful. Having the floors and walls as separate items is very good; as much as I like the look of HeroicMaps' materials, the fact that I can't easily pull the tiles apart and remix them makes them less useful than having the completely modular set. So kudos for that, and thanks again. If you ever create some "NOT Star Wars" tiles (a la Maps of Mastery), I very much want them.

Can I use them in Dungeondraft?

Honestly, I do not know. If you can import images and place them down on a 180 pixel grid, I don't see why not. But at this point in time the art assets are not specifically setup for Dungeondraft. If you do give it a go in Dungeondraft, let us know how you go.

Excellent! Thank you, it was hard finding sci-fi tiles and these are pretty good. Any chance of including a DungeonDraft compatible asset pack?

Thank-you, it is good to hear your enjoying the Map Tiles. Although DungeonDraft looks quite good, at this point in time I don't have plans to specifically setup any of my Map Tiles packs to support it.

Can I ask what the difference is between the two zips? I can't figure it out from looking at the two files.

I was uploading a small update last-night that added some diagonal wall overlays. You must have been looking at the files before I had deleted the old zip file. There should only be one zip file now.

Still showing two. One ends in 20200127, the other 18042020.

Oooohh I see what you mean, in the "My Library" section it shows the old file and the new file. The new file has the date of upload on the end. 18/04/2020 as 18042020. The other one has the upload date around the other way 20200127 is 27/01/2020. When I uploaded the new file I marked the old one to be deleted, for some reason it is still there. I'll request admin to remove the old file.

The update consists of about a dozen wall overlays for diagonal walls.

Thanks. I'd have _thought_ the 18042020 one was the newest, but it wasn't easy to tell.

If I haven't mentioned it, great product by the way; I've gotten a lot of use out of it for my Fragged Empire game before it went on COVID-hold.

Might have been hard to tell because it was only a little update of a few wall overlays.

Good to hear your enjoying the Map Tiles with Fragged Empire. I've had my eye on Fragged Empire for a while now.

These tiles are fantastic! But got a suggestion, would love to see 45 degree angled walls to create more variation of corridors and rooms. Even have a fence type wall that appears low to the ground to create the illusion of a fenced-in outdoor area.

Also any plans on making sci-fi/cyberpunk monsters and npc's?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
