The Watchtower in the Wood is an introductory adventure for characters of 1st - 3rd level, designed for use with the Choe Pho: A New World of Fantasy Role-Playing Game

In this adventure, the characters venture forth from the safety of the Isle of Hope, seeking to bring order to the Plains of Marrow. The adventure offers options for the characters to begin in various areas on the Isle of Hope, but regardless of the path taken, the party eventually makes their way to the haunted lands of the Plains of Marrow. After crossing the harrowing and chaotic lands (and fighting off some of the dark denizens) of the Plains of Marrow, the characters come across a small wooded area. A small stone fort with a lone watchtower stands in a clearing among the trees. Within this camp, the characters will find adventure, drama, and their first dharmachackra!

The Watchtower in the Wood utilizes the 5e OGL.

When a regional reality forms in the Plains of Marrow, does it come from somewhere else? Do the inhabitants have memories from another world? Another time? If a regional reality returns to the chaos in the Plains of Marrow, what happens to the inhabitants? Were they ever real to begin with? If so, where do they go? Do they return "home" rather than being anchored to the Isle of Hope?

The Plains of Marrow are filled with raw spiritual energy, which is left over from the initial creation of Choe Pho. This loose Marrow is unattached to specific souls. It is raw creation is its purest form, but it carries "stains" from its previous existence in the Fallen World. These stains guide the creation of regional realities. Shattered memories, fragments of fairy tales, hopes and dreams of the once living beings who held that Marrow in the Fallen World guide the formation of these regional realities. Creatures formed in a regional reality have memories of previous lives, drawn from the same shards of memory or imagination that the regional reality is drawn from. Creatures from a regional reality that is anchored to the Isle of Hope may be confused or disturbed at the world they once "knew" being no more, or they may embrace their new existence.

If a regional reality is left to dissipate, it just breaks down to its component soulstuff and goes back to chaos. Theoretically,...See more

Yes, it does. Thank you for sharing that. Was that a quote from Choe Pho that I overlooked when reading it? Or something you just wrote in response to my question? If it's not already in the book, I highly recommend adding it!

Its more of an elaboration on what is stated in the sections on Marrow, Adventuring in Choe Pho, and the Council of Enlightenment sections. I do plan to put a supplement together focused on the Council of Enlightenment, beliefs regarding Marrow, and deeper explanations of the connection between the Fallen Word and Choe Pho, which will reveal some of the more fundamental truths of the setting.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
