Bandit Camp & Ambush (Encounter Map)

ZIP File

Adventure awaits! As you and your friends travel on the beaten dirt road through the forest, the birds and beasts of the woods suddenly fall quiet. It takes you a few moments to realize as much, and while you are still wondering you leave a turn in the road to find it blocked by a cart. An arrow zips past your heads, burrowing deep in the trunk of a nearby elm. With a hoarse war cry, the bandits are upon you! But this is no mere hold-up! The ruins of a tower peak through the trees not far away, and there’s the smoke of a fireplace drifting towards you. Your assailants have set up camp here!

The Bandit Camp & Ambush encounter map includes an ambush site on easy-to-print PDFs in A4 & US letter size. It contains both, day and night versions, ready-made with a 1 square in = 5x5 ft. grid. It also comes with a small but detailed underground bandit hideout that can be accessed through stairs in the tower ruins.

  • Gridded and Gridless Versions
  • Day & Night Versions
  • addtl. A3 poster sized versions as JPGs

Question, what are those two lights at the bottom of the preview of the night map? They seem to be disembodied floating lights.....

They are camp fires, or rather the fires used by the bandits to illuminate their road block. If you download the preview file and view it outside DriveThruRPG's inbuilt PDF-viewer you can see the ashes, wood and embers beneath the lights.

Okay, I checked and this is really weird. I can see both previews completely fine - as long as I'm not logged in. Once I've logged in neither loads correctly. Now I've logged in again and can see them fine.^^

I've gotten in contact with tech support and they had the following to say:
"If your customers are viewing the product over a secure connection (and the URL says "https" instead of "http") then our UI blocks previews from happening. This is a known bug that we've been trying to fix for a while."

Ok, I changed it to a non secure connection and I can see the images now. I was not able to log off completely as every time I did something on the site it would automatically log me back in. I would have had to clear my cookies/preferences to be completely logged out. The last time I did that it took forever (months on months) before I was able to log in again without having to enter my password each and every time. This has happened to me twice so far and I do not look forward to going through that again.

I can't fault you for that, it's a needless hassle for something so simple. I just hope you don't hold it against me as this the website's fault, not mine.

No, I understand it is not your fault. I think that OneBookShelf really needs to update some of their software and hardware. I also have problems every time I have to download large map files. It is impossible at times to download large files zipped together. I have left it to zip and download all the files overnight but is still trying to do it when I get back to the PC in the morning.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
