I ran this as a one off for my dnd group and it was a hit! I made some modifications/changed some monsters around to work better for our levels/play style (it's definitely more combat heavy than my group likes, but it was pretty easy to change around for more rp, while keeping the base storyline in place), but I really liked the base story/poem. Also it was super fun as an artist to design the maps/npc/monster art for our game and build off of this!

(i used the conceit of my bard telling this as the story of the adventurers so the stakes were relatively low and people could really have fun with it)

My daughter, age 14, ran it last night for my family. Perfect adventure for people who have NEVER played at a D & D table! Even my 70+ year old mom was willing to take on a character...and she had so much fun storytelling she has said she may play again! It truly is a fun adventure and just long enough for newbies! Thanks Trbality!

I'm the author and thought I would respond...

So happy you and your family enjoyed it. Great to hear you were able to get the next generation running games. I'm trying to get my 13 year old daughter to do the same.

Hi Shawn! I produce a yearly Christmas special for my local news station where I take a group from the station through a DnD adventure. I'd love to use your story with your permission, giving proper credit of course. Let me know what you think, you can contact me at bnaeth@newcap.ca. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi, just so you know, I paid for this and then downloaded it via the checkout success page but the resulting PDF was blank (corrupt).

I came back to this page and downloaded via "Click to get it!" and then it worked.

I ran the web version of this as a level-0 character funnel for my D&D group last weekend, and it was a huge success!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
