Every occult order worth its weight has a library of mystic truths. But the truly wondrous, truly frightening truths require you look deeper. That you delve in long, lost places. These, my friend, are those long, lost places.

— Creidne

The Tome of Secrets is a treatment of numerous topics about Cainites and stranger things in the Dark Medieval World. It’s about peeling back the curtain, and digging a little deeper. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Expanded treatment of Assamite Sorcery, Koldunic Sorcery, Necromancy, and Setite Sorcery
  • A look at Cainite knightly orders, faith movements, and even human witchcraft
  • Letters and diaries from all over the Dark Medieval World

This book was made possible by the backers of the Deluxe V20 Dark Ages Kickstarter.

I found this book rather dissapointing. Great ideas, geat design, compelling powers and player options - bad or missing cross reference to existing material, unbalanced or useless powers, senseless clan history modifications; seems to me this made with a good intent to please vampire players, but did not take into account in depth previous material, game balance, clan history and composition, and multiple contradictions; After endless discussions with players I must sadly convene that it fails to do what I think is the most basic and important thing for a book of this kind: serve as game accesory to expand and develop vampire chronicles, since it only added confusion, broken paths (in many ways), conflicting information and missed basic things like a comprehensive list of paths per magical tradition, or clarification for magical tradition and paths that already existed. New paths and powers that are either totally out of its intended power scope, are useless, or have no relation to the magical tradition - doing...See more

Good luck with that, OPP just pump out the trash at a rate of knots because they know people lap it up. The only way companies like this learn from their substandard publications and hiring practices, (is it difficult to find five people who at least have read some VTDA books from previous editions and understand the lore?) is to refuse them your money in the future. Plus this line, now it has served its 20th ed. purpose, looks deader than a Cappadocian (which again is typical OPP practice. Splurge out a load of trash for a 20th edition then never support it afterwards.)

I find a mistake in page 8 "Here, we expand upon the magics of the Cappadocians,
the Giovani, and Laibon necromancers." Laibon doesn't have Necromancy, I think they don't exist in V20 DA, it should be Lamia, shouldn't it?

Laibon Legacies do appear in V20 Dark Ages.

Can anyone tell me if the magic section is any good to use with modern settings. Or is it like previous editions, where the modern books over write the old magic

As far as I know, you can still use the various types of magic (Thaumaturgy, Assamite Sorcery, Koldunism, Obtenebration etc) in the modern day era books.

what Scott said. All in all it is up to your Storyteller to allow it or not but nothing in the books specifically limits it's use to the Dark Ages.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
