Aaron Allston's Strike Force

Aaron Allston's Strike Force

Watermarked PDF

A superhero setting like no other. A role-playing game campaign book that includes techniques and lessons from over 22 years of play. A tribute to one of the greatest creators in the RPG industry, created using Champions 6th Edition.

In 1988, Aaron Allston released Strike Force, a supplement detailing the first eight years of his superhero campaign. Noted for its extensive and highly-influential advice to gamemasters on how to run a long-term campaign, Strike Force was a landmark RPG publication.

We have now released an updated version of this classic book for the 21st Century. Aaron himself was designing this new edition of Strike Force before his untimely death, and we wanted to bring his work to life as a monument to Aaron's lasting influence on the RPG hobby. This  updated Strike Force sourcebook includes never-before-seen material detailing Aaron's multiversal superhero setting, compelling characters and villains, and updated and expanded advice from Superhero RPG veterans like Steve Kenson and Sean Patrick Fannon for how to run a campaign using "the Strike Force method."

The electronic portion of this product includes character write-ups for Mutants & Masterminds and ICONS.

I own the old, original Strike Force book. Besides the M&M and ICONS stats, and any changes to the Champions stuff that were only made to update between editions, is there any completely new information? Does "updated version of this classic book for the 21st Century" refer to any campaign advice or world information?

Basically, if I'm not going to use this with any system for actual play, and I already have the original book, am I better off just sticking to the new Archives book instead?

The Icons stats are here, but only in the form of a barely formatted Word file. This is a pretty weak effort on that front, and feels like it was barely an afterthought. Presentation matters. The main PDF looks great, and is packed with info and content.

Wow. Does this have complete stats on everything for M&M, Champions, as well as ICONS? Or is the ICONS part just attached to whatever articles Steve Kenson might have written up. I have to confess... Im an ICONS freak, but I am down with the M&M too. Champions is too data dense for me.

Thanks in advance for whatever clarification you can give.

This product contains the characters sheets for ICONS and Mutants & Masterminds (broken up into two sections) in DOC X format (readable by Word, Open Office, and Libre Office) zipped together with the PDF for the Strike Force book

Andy, it's a zip file containing four different files, which is why the preview function doesn't work. Not sure what to do about that! It's a nice looking book. I'm holding the print version in my hand right now, and it starts with a two page table of contents and end with a bunch of sketches done by Denis Loubet back in the 80's. It's full color, well organized, and the artwork is solid. Hope that helps.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
