Larius Firetongue's School of Sorcery

School's in Session!

Corridors filled with robed apprentices. Their companions creatures both natural and conjured from worlds beyond worlds. Classrooms of bubbling cauldrons and summoning circles holding things and fiends most foul. Fantasy academia where tomes penned by inhuman scribes grant unending power. Where duels between mages are fought with spell, wand, and spectral blades.

Larius Firetongue's School of Sorcery is a Swords & Wizardry (and by extent other OSR) compatible sourcebook centering around magic school adventures, although any gaming group that has a love of all things magical can find plenty of usable material within its pages. Within this tome you shall find:

  • New playable races such as beastfolk, gnomes, and tieflings to reflect a diverse student body
  •  Treasured Tomes, which turns books into treasure and whose contents can grant new skills and abilities to readers
  • 14 pages worth of new spells, including a cantrip system representing minor expenditures of magical power used by dabblers and apprentices before they master true spells
  • A mage-focused hexcrawl environment, containing 3 full-fledged dungeons and a central academy filled with students and teachers with plots both fair and foul
  • Charts and tables for generating school-centric NPCs, plots, classroom events, and random encounters when wandering the halls of a magic school
  • A bookmarked, watermark-free PDF
  • 3 different hex maps with varying levels of information, perfect for player handouts and secret GM reference!

All of this and more can be yours for the price of $9.99! Stock up on healing potions and crack open your evocation textbooks, for a new kind of adventure awaits you in the halls of fantasy academia!

I just bought this. There's no map of the academy itself included?

There was intentionally no map for the school itself. For Firetongue Academy I wanted to leave things vague beyond major NPCs and central building descriptions, allowing instead more freedom for the Game Master in terms of determining class locations, hallways, school clubs, etc. The sample random charts and tables allow for a wide variety of interesting locations for both Firetongue Academy and magic schools of the GM's own creation. I figured that a pre-defined map would take away from this.

I'm sorry. I debated how to reply. I just don't understand. I wanted a school of sorcery. That's not what I got. A keyed map seems a very basic ingredient. Not a rules supplement, not wilderness maps, not separate dungeon adventures. A school setting that I can present to my players with little to no additional prep work from me. I cannot recommend this product.

Thanks for the review. That's what I was looking for as well and with the need to develop my own set of maps doesn't make this item a viable solution to my requirement.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
