Welcome to Christmas in July! In celebration, this digital title has been marked down by up to 25%! For more values, visit our Christmas in July sale page.

Fort Griffin Savaged offers a traditional Wild West setting designed for Savage Worlds.

The Savaged version of DHR's Fort Griffin contains 17 fully-described establishments, 90 personalities (historical and fictional), and more than 100 adventure hooks (with DHR's world-famous "Forks in the Road" alternatives for many of the hooks). This whole kit and caboodle contains a full set of maps, Setting Rules, historical sidebars, and a passel of weird ideas on the side.

FGS now includes an update for Savage Worlds Adventure Edition, with redesigns for all 90 Personalities (Wild Cards and Extras), along with Setting Rules updates.

DHR is an Ace licensee publisher for Savage Worlds.

The GM (the Dog House Gang prefers 'Judge') will get all of the following:

  • Fort Griffin SWADE update - One new pdf: 41 pages, an addendum to the originals, with updated information and 90 new character cards.
  • The Flat Map Pack - A set of files with all the maps a Judge needs, from tiled versions for printing a tabletop map (with or without a grid) to VTT versions for folks who prefer one of those newfangled electronic tabletop contraptions.
  • Fort Griffin main document - The original: 154 pages containing descriptions of the town -- affectionately known as The Flat -- with detailed establishments, embedded maps, personalities, and plenty of adventure hooks to keep players busy for ages.
  • The Flat Personality Pack - The original: 37 pages, containing character "cards" to aid the Judge in a fast and furious game pace whether gunfire breaks out or because a player interaction with a prominent personality needs a quick-as-lightning Trait roll.

Every establishment comes with a thorough description of its history, current proprietor and other notables, as well as maps and room-by-room details. The personalities who make each place come alive are furnished with statistics for Savage Worlds. And a number of important characters have original illustrations to boot. Even if a Judge prefers not to use the stats, or decides to cherry-pick favorite elements for addition to an existing milieu, there's plenty of content packed in these pages to make Fort Griffin Savaged suitable -- and downright useful, we hope -- for any Wild West game.

Fort Griffin Savaged comes with the following establishments designed for a hootin'-hollerin' time in an Old West burg. A word to the wise, pard, things ain't always what they seem . . . .

Saloons, Lodging and Entertainment

  • Shannsey's Saloon
  • Beehive Saloon
  • Doney's Saloon
  • Frontier House
  • Planters Hotel

Goods and Supplies

  • York and Meyers Outfitters
  • Post Office and Drug Store
  • Louis Woolform's Bakery

Professional Services

  • African Methodist Episcopal Church
  • Doc Culver's

Last but not least, Fort Griffin Savaged contains a final chapter with personalities and adventure hooks, titled Just Passing Through and Tying It All Together. We reckon the chapter title is sufficiently self-explanatory.

Any plan for a softcover print version?

Not sure how we missed your comment, Robert R. Begging your pardon.
There is no immediate plan for that, but we are just now releasing a print-on-demand softcover for Bad Night in El Rey, and we are considering what other pod items we might do. Thanks for expressing your interest.

I currently own a copy of Sidewinder for the D20 modern System, will there ever be a "Savaged" version of the core book (Sidewinder)? Or can I use the Fort Griffin Savaged to convert the core book?

Hi, thanks for the question. The short answer to "will there be a Savaged version of the Sidewinder core book" is ... "maybe." The long answer is more complicated. A few people have asked about such a conversion, but we haven't seen enough interest to undertake such a project.
You can't really use the Fort Griffin Savaged to convert Sidewinder Recoiled (SR). However, there is a version of Fort Griffin that is designed and "Branded for Recoiled." You can use Fort Griffin with either Savage Worlds or Sidewinder Recoiled ... just get the version for whichever core rules you want to use.

started reading through this and I couldn't help but notice a lot of references to SWD but not explorers edition which is the newer version. I also find this strange as the explorer's edition would have been the most current edition when this was released. It just puts the page references out as they don't match the explorer's edition. It also seems the DLRPG page references are not using the explorer's editions.

Other than that I'm liking it so far, I had just finished listening to your interview on the wild die podcast and really liked the sound of this so I had to pick it up.

Thanks for your observations. Glad to hear you are enjoying the product so far.
Yes, when we started work on the Savaged version of Fort Griffin, we were using SWD. We simply never updated the page numbers for Explorers Edition. We probably should have avoided page number references altogether and simply said "see Savage Worlds" for the rules (live and learn, I reckon).
We hope that this isn't a major issue -- more like an inconvenience.
Thanks again for purchasing Fort Griffin Savaged.

Hello, thanks for the question.

Fort Griffin Savaged is designed primarily as a supplement for a standard Wild West game. No supernatural elements are required to play this setting. All the Wild Card and Extra personalities in the game are designed without any supernatural elements. All of the more than 100 adventure hooks can be played within a standard western setting, all according to Hoyle.

However, as part of our "Forks in the Road" sections among the adventure hooks, DHR has provided various weird west alternative elements that the Judge could weave into the game, if desired. Such as: suggestions for converting one or more of the NPC Wild Cards into someone with strange powers (and usually hidden from the populace), or suggestions for introducing some strange artifact into a scenario. So yes, there are supernatural elements for those who take a liking to such things, but the Judge ain't bound to any of them.

At DHR, we strive for flexibility. Fort Griffin...See more

Based on the description it seems that there may be elements of Deadlands (supernatural elements) in this supplement. I would NOT be interested in that. Is Frontier Towns: Fort Griffin Savaged a supplement for a standard old west game or is it like Deadlands?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
