Watermarked PDF
Suggested Price $2.00

White Box: Expanded Lore is a supplement for White Box and is compatible with any other Swords & Wizardry game. It adds:

  • Five new character classes: the Bard, the Paladin, the Monk, the Hunter and the Druid. Each of them is designed to be simple and in the same fashion as the original White Box classes.
  • 20 UNIQUE Druid Spells

Furthermore, this book presents optional, expanded rules designed for long White Box campaigns:

  • Alternative character race rules
  • Additional abilities for all character classes
  • Feats!

An (even more) updated version of White Box: Expanded Lore has been uploaded.

After posting 2.0, we noticed some nasty errors, and a quick fix was necessary. Some additional adjustments to the balance were also made (thanks Jonathan Rowe from for the help!).

- Added a illustration to the Table of Contents, to fill the blank spot
- Fixed some typos
- Some slight adjustments to the Monk - his SV against missiles are now improved by their Martial Arts level.
- Bard - "Light Step" improves the AC by 1 instead of 2
- Bard - "Fencer" has been rebalanced
- Monk - "Iron Knuckles" now make all unarmed strikes into magical weapon attacks. This allows the monk to fight monsters like the iron golems bare-handed.
- Monk -"Slow Motion" is slightly better.
- Monk - "Vital Strikes" can now paralyze for 1d6 turns
- Monk - Meditation now heals...See more

The Expanded Lore has been updated into version 2.0

Notable changes:

- New class: Hunter (do not confuse him with the traditional Ranger! This one works a bit different...)

- The Monk and Paladin have been rebalanced

- Fighter subclasses have been changed and rebalanced

- Feats have been rebalanced and now allow to build more interesting characters (like Bard-Fencers)

- The preface and credits have been updated, as my blog is (finally) also written in English and German

Have fun dungeon delving.

~ Simon

Hey Szymon, just wanted to say this is a very very well done supplement. I had a few questions though that hopefully you can answer...

1. Do the original classes still keep any saving throw or other combat bonuses as listed in the White Box Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game book? For example do Fighters still retain combat fury? It seems a little too similar to cleave. Just curious.
2. If your constitution gets raised to a new bonus level like from a +1 to a +2 does it affect your hit points retroactively? Say my Elf Fighter/Mage hits level 2 and raises her constitution to a 9. She had a -1 before so at level 2, with max HP, she would've had 10 HP. With a new and improved 9 constitution she loses the penalty. So would her HP jump to 12 or would it only affect subsequent levels gained?

I guess my response comes too late (I wish DTRPG would inform me, when a comment is written...)
Yes and Yes (the HP changes).
Cleave may seem similiar, but it also affects stronger creatures, while the combat fury only works on weaker ones. It is basically an improvent to combat fury.

Any plans for a print version to go with my print copy of White Box? (Fingers crossed)

Sadly, I have no experience when it comes to print. I'm planning to update the PDF this or the next week (some nasty errors are still present). Maybe then...

Simon, firstly I really like your expansion project for White Box. I think that the feats are a nice touch without being too "post 3.5ish" if you know what I mean. One question though, you give special feats for gnomes and half-orcs but no stats or even a statement if these are playable or not. Is this a slight editorial oversight or are they only npc races?

Thank You!
I'm not sure though what do you mean by "if they are playable or not" - Expanded Lore has 5 races - Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Gnome and Half-Orc, all of them are presented in the "Races" chapter. Players may choose any race-class combination, races have no prerequisite attributes or stats, only special abilities.

Gotcha, that confused me for a minute, I actually figured it out after I wrote you. Sorry about that, great game supplement though, I am definitely using it in my Whitebox campaign. Thanks again.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
