A Roleplaying Game From Under the Floorboards!

The Small Folk have been lurking on the margins of human society since before the dawn of history, but we humans don't tend to notice them. They're really good at hiding from us. They're also good at arguing, picking fights, sulking, and splitting up into cliques. But they're tough, clever (on their good days), and armed with an array of startling magical powers.

The Small Folk is a game of wainscot urban fantasy, built round the popular FATE rules engine. Take your pick of seven different cliques, from aggressive goblins to oh-so-superior brownies and technophile gremlins (or the cliqueless, because some people just have to be different), and an array of skills and magical powers, personalise your character with aspects and stunts, and get out there and get underfoot.

Oh, and watch out for cats, rats, hawks, mousetraps, and your neighbours.

Note: The "Premium Color" print-on-demand version of this book is printed on heavier paper in somewhat higher quality, and the illustrations are indeed in colour. But this isn't a heavily illustrated book, so please don't expect lush imagery.

Also: R.P.P.R. Tabletop Tales have a Small Folk Actual Play! And if you want some idea of how this setting looks in play, see Eight Example Small Folk Characters - available for free!

What happened to the RPPR actual play? The link is dead and when I went to their website I searched for it and it found no results.

Can't help, I'm afraid; I have no personal contact with the people involved. I was just flattered that they used my game.

Fair enough. Hopefully someday I will be able to give your game it's due coverage.

Okay, this book is now available in Print on Demand form, in colour and B&W versions. I should say that, while the "Premium Color" print-on-demand version of this book is printed on heavier paper in somewhat higher quality, and the illustrations are indeed in colour, this isn't a heavily illustrated book, so please don't expect lush imagery.

Very, very sorry I previously missed this question.

I could take a look at the DTRPG system for PoD versions, I guess. It's not been such a huge seller that I thought there'd be much demand. In the meantime, it might be possible to get a copy printed somewhere like Lulu.

Thanks for the update... your contribution to The Dreaming Cities is still one of the best rpg settings, ever. So, definitely interested in a POD.

Okay, I'm now working on getting PoD versions available - B&W and colour. I'm currently waiting on the pre-press process, and then I have to request and check proof copies, but hopefully these might be available by the end of the month. I'll try to remember to e-mail all customers when it's ready.

A black & white print on demand version is now available. I’m still looking at making a colour version available, but getting the price/quality balance right may be tricky.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
