EXTRA NOTE: The Hero Kids - Complete Fantasy PDF Bundle includes a 50% discount coupon for the softcover print version of Hero Kids - Fantasy RPG and the Hero Kids - Monster Compendium (the coupon is emailed to you when you buy the bundle).  So if you want the whole lot (PDFs and print version of the rules), buy the bundle then use the coupon to buy the softcover print version of Hero Kids - Fantasy Expansion - Monster Compendium for half price!

Each monster section contains ecology and adventure hooks for the monsters.  As Brian Benoit says:

"From the perspective of a GM, I absolutely love all the hooks you've included in the book.  You could literally flip to any page and run an off-the-cuff adventure off of any one of the hooks provided, so I love the book from that perspective.  I also like the lists of names included, makes it easy to name an NPC on the fly.  It's a nice touch."

Hero Kids Monster Compendium Preview 2

The PDF also comes with another 51 page PDF for all of the monster stand-ups.

Hi Justin,

Seen a few comments related to this already but they are a bit dated now, was wondering if these (and other hero packs) have full colour versions yet? I realise its a pain of a task so understandable if not, but the group I run for do respond much better to the original full colour enemies and Hero's. if its something that's not done yet, do you know if its likely to be done in the near future?

Also amazing work, its got to be said! xD Thanks!

Hi Josh, I have consulted with the gods, and they are favorably inclined to your request!

Seriously though, I'm currently working on the Brecken Vale Gazetteer, and then the next task is to refresh the Monster Compendium with full-color artwork.

This is great news! While you're at it, any chance you can also provide a version with the grey fill removed? I spent hundreds on a resin 3D printer to create miniatures but my daughter just wants to colour the standees. Consider this a compliment! :D

Hi Oliver, the translation packs are not yet available for the Monster Compendium, so it's probably at least 3 months before this will be available in French.

My Kids RPG Group really likes the artwork on the monsters in particular (I used the coloring book and had the mentor of the PC heroes provide each with a "Monster Recognition" manual. Any chance we will see a set of flat plastic miniatures for the monsters in this book?

I love the additional world building that's gone into this, introducing places like the White Sea and explaining a little bit of the history of Rivenshore. Are there plans to put out any more expansions that go into more detail about the history of the Vale? For instance I found this reference in the Slimes section: "Rivenshore is built on the ruins of an older town, which was in its turn built on the ruins of an ancient city destroyed in a turn of the great wheel." Now that sounds like an amazing bit of backstory that I'd love to read more about.

Hi Justin,

My kids are really looking forward to diving into the game. D&D was too much for them and your Hero Kids is a perfect way to introduce them to role playing games. Thanks.

One question, do you have any suggestion for mounting the character/monster tokens so they stand?

Keep up the great work!

John

These plastic standees are also a good option. We have a set and it adds a good pop of color to each players piece. https://smile.amazon.com/Flat-Plastic-Miniatures-Hero-Kids/dp/B0719PS1SD/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523393923&sr=8-3&keywords=hero+kids&dpID=6105tWUy8oL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Hi Justin,

The game is terrific and my daughter has really taken to it. We're just wondering if you will be expanding your hard copy print versions on to Amazon. Presently, we've only been able to find them on sites like this one and ordering is a bit of a challenge to Canada. As such, we've been printing them off via the PDF version and going through a LOT of colour ink in our printer. I suppose we could print them in black and white, but we kind of like the off-white look of the scrolls, cards, cover pages, etc.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately, I don't have the capacity to maintain additional storefronts, like Amazon or Lulu, at the moment.

By the by, the books are B&W, so if you prefer the parchment backing (as I do), then printing the PDFs is the best option. Alternatively, the ideal solution is to print the cover in colour, and then just get some parchment paper and print on that in B&W.

FYI - it's much cheaper to email the PDF to a FedEx Kinkos or other print shop and have them print them (they'll even double side the pages and 3 hole punch them for you). You can instruct them which pages should be in card stock, on off white paper, etc. Then, you can put into a binder. I did this and it's worked out great.

Hi Justin!
Nice addition to the game!
I was looking at the Full-size Preview (have to wait 'till payday!) and I noticed the Bat Swarm Bonus Ability - Huge Swarm, that says "Melee attacks at that all enemies that occupy spaces that you also occupy." This confuses me. Does it mean that you may melee attack up to four heroes that occupy the same spaces that you occupy? (a 2x2 square) And if so, would I roll two dice once and have the heroes defend against those numbers?

Now what we need are cards with adventure seeds on them, and you could solicit suggestions from the other fans of the game. If you get enough you could make a rather large deck. Isn't there a site where you can print cards on demand? I know there is a card game called "Murder of Crows" where you can do this. Just upload the info and you can get sent to you as few as one card.

Hi Steve. Yes, the bats attack all enemies in their 2x2 area (four squares). I'd roll each attack separately, but for convenience you could just roll once.

I think the site you're thinking of is DriveThruCards! :-)

Love the addition to the HeroKids bundle! Is there a chance for a printer-friendly rendition of the Core file for printing character-sheets? Gotta have some place for the kids to put M&Ms to keep track of enemy HP.

Thank you for an awesome game for my kid, she was classified as autistic and was able to enjoy it almost 2 years ago (age 3). We took a break for a while due to personal things, but i actually have been getting ready to start this back up when she starts school (one night a week), and this is going to be awesome! Anyone looking for a game for your kids to introduce them to Role Playing in a fun way, more game play less rules (TEACH THEM EARLY! :) ) this is the game for you.

Justin Thank you, this is just in time! I really like the new layout with 2 files one for cutouts and one for descriptions. Trying to print the older modules out at staples is a pain in the butt, but well worth it! Is there anyway to possibly update the older printable pdf's by splitting the maps / cutouts into there own pdf. So when i print the module (or don't print and use on ipad), I can double page print the module / info, and I can single page print the maps / cutouts.

Thanks again-

I too wanted to read the content on a tablet but have the cut-outs for actual play. I used a PDF-slicing tool (on Linux, I used `pdfjam` or `pdftk`, but other tools likely exist on other platforms) to run through the various printable downloads, extract the printable pages I wanted, and combine them all into one big PDF to take for printing. Worked well for me and reduced the printed material considerably—I think the full thing would have worked out to 400-500 pages, while just the cut-outs were under 100 pages; something like $10-15 at our local office-supply-and-printing store (rather than the $40-60 to print the whole heap).

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
