Even superheroes get their share of strange mutations and scientific experiments gone awry. Endless volumes have been written on how to generate statistics for the system of your choice and generate new and original creatures. Building Monsters takes a different approach. In this book, we’ll look at monsters as full-fledged characters. We’ll show you how to develop back stories, and motivations for their actions. By doing this, you’ll have more than somethi...

Building Theme
Regular price: $5.00
Bundle price:
 $4.00
Format:
 PDF
A minimalist 96-page guide to creating memorable stories for any tabletop roleplaying system or setting. When discussing any other form of storytelling, the concept of theme will eventually come up. It doesn’t matter if the medium is a novel, a film, a television series, even a comic book or a song. The people having the discussion might be writers, readers, critics, or academics. Opinions will be exchanged about what the deeper meaning of the story is, and what the author of the piece was trying to say. Roleplaying games are different in structure, and the needs of the story, the gamemaster, and the players are unique. Adventures are still stories. Embracing theme can be an easy way to make those stories even better. It’s infinitely more interesting when the character...

"You Have Purchased This Product"

Apparently I don't have a single product in the bundle.

Did I miss a canonical name change memo?

You may have purchased this bundle when the older editions of some of these books were in it. Those editions aren't available, and were replaced by newer editions as they became available.

People have been purchasing the bundle and downloading it without issue.

If you ever have difficulty completing a purchase or downloading items, you can contact customer service. They don't always see these comments (neither do publishers) and it's not an issue that publishers can resolve.

If you created new editions of the books, why didn't you create a new edition bundle?

By screwing all this up you basically made downloading the product for your original editions broken---you know, for those of us who purchased the original bundle of books.

Maybe you haven't noticed before, but publishers actually indicate new editions when published.

Thanks for nothing.

Hey there,

what is the principal difference compared to the Foragers Guild Guides? What do you suggest is better for GMs?

Kind Regads,

These are very generic, and look at elements of storytelling that apply to everything from tabletop roleplaying games to fiction to screenwriting. The Foragers Guild Guides are specifically targeted at fantasy roleplaying games and go a bit deeper in that direction.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
