from industry award-winning designers, Brian R. James and Matt James.

RED AEGIS™ is a game about claiming your birthright, rallying loyal followers to your cause, and forging a dynasty that will thrive through the ages.

The epic story of RED AEGIS is revealed over ten game sessions, where you command successive generations of heroes from the stone age through modern times and into the far off future.

In RED AEGIS all heroes meet their fate: whether on the field of battle or of old age, your character will die. Yet your bloodline is strong, ever forging new heroes to carry the torch forward throughout the ages.

This did look really interesting, but as a backer for the Kickstarter at the $250 level, I received absolutely nothing. I cannot in good conscience recommend this, even if it were a stellar example of RPG design. They received over $65,000 in Kickstarter and left a lot of people without anything.

Hopefully, they make things right, as this did seem like a positive RPG addition.

Even if XXX is hitting the fan, communication things to the backers is a good thing and not lies that Robotech Tactics KS people did after they misused funds.

This game looks really interesting, but I'd like to see a response to Chris L's comments before I buy it. Have the issues that he mentioned been dealt with.

Hey Robert. Since Chris L commented, the game has received additional polishing in preparation for its hardcover print run. The most recent update to the game, uploaded to DriveThruRPG at the end of October, is the version that will be printed. Several game mechanics were clarified and annotations added to aid in system mastery. This is not a rules-light RPG by any measure, so a thorough read-through of the game manual is strongly recommended. -Brian

A really interesting game as someone who loved 4X's and roleplaying. The game has a seemingly deep system with lots of bookkeeping, but it sorta works for a 4X/RPG hybrid--4X fans love lots of resources to manage, after all. The book isn't finished, though, and that's not listed anywhere that I can see. There are blatant mid-edit-cycle discrepancies and [[insert an ability that does X or Y here]] markers.

Furthermore, what IS done is organized very poorly. For example, only after detailed Tribe (analogous to party), Clan (analogous to PC), and Scion (mini-character) creation chapters do they have a description of the basic action. That's described as "Scion attribute die + Tribe Skill die + Tribe Craft die", but you have to put together that the Skill Die and Craft Die are dice granted by Skill- and Craft-type Cultures, and there's a chart many chapters earlier listing the exact dice to use based on Culture level. Furthermore, Scions aren't the level that defines the Attribute dice, as...See more

I should note that a lot of the gameplay issues I first noticed when writing this comment were actually just more bad communication. The organization of this book is terrible, but if you wade through it and reorganize the information--as I think I might in a document for my use--the game does seem solid on paper.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
