Before science, before history, an era of magic existed in our world's dim past. Magic flowed freely, touching every aspect of the lives of men and women of the Namegiver races. Bold heroes from all across the land band together, arming themselves with powerful magical spells and treasures, ready to fight for life and freedom. It was an age of fantastical deeds and mythical stories.

It was the Age of Legend.

Earthdawn: The Age of Legend is a roleplaying game set in a world of high adventure, high magic, and terrible danger. Story-based mechanics, easy to learn and intuitive to use, allow you to create exciting stories about powerful adepts in this ancient era of heroes.

This book contains all the rules you need to play, including an introduction to the world of Earthdawn. Check our website at for a PDF preview!

The non-optimized (i.e., pretty and square) PDF of the core book isn't readable once downloaded: it's just a bunch of blank pages with gibberish for bookmarks. What gives?

Your website mentions "matching" bonus and penalty dice; how does this work? In stock FU, bonus & penalty dice always cancel so you're never rolling them at the same time.

Any thoughts of publishing your FU variant without a setting?

If I buy the watermarked PDF + Softcover Color Book, who is sending the actual book? Is the physical book actually printed and ready to be shipped out, and is there a shipping/handling cost for the book?

The fulfillment is done by DTRPG by print on demand. Your book is printed and sent out after production--shipping depends on where you live, but is moderate due to distributed print facilities (if you live in Europe, your book is printed in the UK, for example).

Standard six-sided dice. You can also customize a set yourself, check out this article:

The PDF is really problematic. It is sluggish even on my Surface Pro, the Background is not correctly shown and some Pictures are Missing (Page 73).

Also why is the editing the Bookmarks blocked? Bookmarks are essentials for PDF's and while the Document has some, I would rather add a few important ones on my own.

The format and file setup was optimized for print, and all those graphics and transparency bloats the file. An update is coming very soon, along with a faster and optimized PDF for reading, printing, and playing.

Thanks for mentioning the bookmarks--these aren't supposed to be locked, its probably something added by the DTRPG settings. We'll look into this and change accordingly.

The PDF works fine on the Ipads now 8D

The only problem (for me) that still remains is that adding/changing Bookmarks is still not allowed.

I am so glad to see Earthdawn back! I was a tad disappointed to see that the preview PDF was just the first 10 pages (Particularly the "What is a RPG section"). I was wondering if you would entertain maybe giving us a look deeper in the interior, at some neat art, and some world exploration? Something that's juicy that makes us want to hit that Buy button?

So far, have only been reading through the pdf. Very attractive book and the rules look like a nice, lighter alternative to the traditional FASA Earthdawn.

The rules are based on the Freeform Universal system, but with a lot of tweaks and additions to make it more suitable for Earthdawn. This version looks like a pretty reasonable light to medium narrative based system and reminds me of Lady Blackbird to a degree.

The only issue I have at the moment is that the pdf could really use another optimisation pass - it is fine on my PC or laptop, but my tablet struggles with it (Samsung Galaxy Tab A2 for reference)

We're working on a faster and optimized PDF for reading, printing, and playing. It will be added to the product files once ready. All those graphics and transparency makes the book look good in print, but bloats the file. We can hopefully mend that.

The optimised PDF is much faster on an iPad Air. Good work.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
