EPICS has been redesigned into the DESTINY system - however, the EPICS system is still avalible for pay-what-you-want here!

EPICS - Deserve to Survive! The old days when players could sit around the table, roll a few dice, and win the day (while barely paying attention) are gone. Now the players will have to think about their characters and role-play as well as fight, if they want to survive. This is the new age of gaming, where characters are designed as they are played. This is EPICS (the Easy, Player-Initiated Game System)!

With one of the most original game systems in years, characters begin as basic concepts (with few scores), but are detailed more and more as they are played. The Actors receive Survival Points for thinking fast, good role-playing and adding detail to their characters. Other rules cover animals, equipment, super-powers and more.

The system is simple enough for beginners but probably is best played by more experienced gamers who like to act as well as roll dice and kill monsters (although there are optional advanced rules for those who like to roll a lot of dice!). Simulating the "reality" of movies and comics, characters who have more "Influence" over the story are more likely to survive - as long as the player earns enough points by playing well.

Don't be fooled - this is a new type of roleplaying system, not a hack job of some system before. Rules for character creation, skills, being wounded and even equipment are not what you are used to... there isn't even a score for life points!

The game allows for super-fast character generation (less than a minute in some cases!), but characters grow through game play and become as detailed, if not more, than in other role-play game systems. Important characters can be created by the Director with many details - or thugs with just a few. Complete rules are provided to make up any kind of character, including those with super-powers. The EPICS system is all you should ever need to play, but there additional books in the works, including a book to help the Director run successful EPICS games, and adventure and world sourcebooks. (Dragonslayer Games is looking for writers to create material for the game!

Only a little over half of this 50-page book contains the complete game rules. Included as the latter half of the book is an example game Setting, A.N.G.E.L.S., a dark world where heroes with rare inhuman powers struggle to fight against supernatural creatures and dark goverment plots.

With a focus on role-playing over rolling dice, the EPICS system can easily be modified as a role-playing award system for other rpg games.

Create any kind of character or world with EPICS!

Epics is a cinema-style game, with some pretty extensive, yet basic rules to follow. The PDF / book does not have an easy-to-understand layout, which hurts it greatly, but for 5.00 dollars, it is not a bad deal. [...]

The EPICS roleplaying system is an innovative, standalone, generic roleplaying system that can be used for any kind of story-based roleplaying. The system is intriguing. By starting only with the basics of the setting and character, you can jump right [...]

Gah, my cat destroyed my first comment, so let me summarize what I said: First, the system is innovative, clean, and it works. Second, the only downside to the book is that the art seems to have been placed into the PDF at low re [...]

Hi, I think this product is awesome! The whole idea of having characters revealed on the fly is really nice. I always believed that the best episodes of any TV show are when character background stuff is revealed. I also love the idea of char [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
