SJR7 Krynnspace (2e)

For centuries, the intelligent races of Krynn have looked upward, toward the moons, planets, star, and the bery crystal sphere of Krynnpace. They have looked up and wondered, and gone back to their planetbound lives.

Meanwhile, on other worlds in other spheres, spelljamming ships have begun to venture into the Void; they have encountered vast evil--and vast wealth--in the trackless reaches of wildspace. Their ships have explored their own spheres and are even now moving toward Krynnspace.

And on Krynn, the art of spelljamming is stirring. Unbeknownst to most of the inhabitants, spelljamming ports are opening. Spelljammers from other spheres are exploring the planet, and explorers from Krynn are rising into the sky and into space. Soon the mysteries or Reorx, Chislev, the Black Clouds, and the dark planet Nehzmyth will be yeilded up--or will destroy those seeking to investigate.

Now you can add spelljamming to your Krynn based campaign with Krynnspace, an accessory for the SPELLJAMMER campaign setting. The SPELLJAMMER boxed set is needed to use this booklet.

Product History

SJR7: "Krynnspace" (1993), by Jean Rabe, is the seventh of the Spelljammer Reference books. It was released in February 1993.

Continuing the "SJR" Series. "Krynnspace" followed on from SJR2: "Realmspace" (1991) and SJR6: "Greyspace" (1992), completing Spelljammer's description of the Radiant Triangle.

Expanding Wildspace. "Krynnspace" details the entire crystal sphere surrounding Krynn, but in doing so it varies somewhat from Spelljammer's standard formulas. The module explains that "Not every planetary body in this fantasy setting can be explained in scientific and analytical terms." In other words, Krynn is described as a more primal crystal sphere, with more opportunity for whimsy and wonder.

Expanding Krynn. By 1993, Krynn had already been well-integrated with Spelljammer. That started with Krynn's tinker gnomes, who Jeff Grubb immediately brought into the setting in the original Spelljammer (1989) box. Meanwhile, spelljamming races were also immigrating to Krynn. Crash-landed mindflayers appeared as the degenerate yaggol in Time of the Dragon (1989) while traditional, spelljamming drow appeared on Krynn in DLS4: "Wild Elves" (1991).

"Krynnspace" continued this integration, most notably by placing a spelljamming port in the city of Palanthas — something that Krynn fans were not entirely happy with. Of course, it also detailed the other planets lying near Krynn, including: Sirion, Reorx, Chislev, and Zivilyn. (The name of some of these planets, and the gods associated with them, has since been corrected in D&D 3e.)

Whoops! "Krynnspace" says that "the [three] Moons of Krynn circle their world equidistant from each other and from Krynn. " Unfortunately, this positioning would preclude the lunar conjunctions that occur in Krynn, including the "Night of the Eye", which fans have calculated should occur every 504 days, based on the moon charts in the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (2003).

No official explanation has been offered for this discrepancy.

Future History. In more recent days, a fan produced the "DragonHelm’s Guide to Krynnspace" (2003), which updates "Krynnspace" to the 3e era and to the cosmology of the War of Souls.

About the Creators. Rabe had been writing for TSR since 1987, but this was her introduction to Dragonlance. She would soon become one of the line's major authors following the publication of her "Dragons of a New Age" series, which began with The Dawning of a New Age (1996)

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
