A1 Assault on Blacktooth Ridge -- Adventures for 5th Edition Rules

The Blacktooth Ridge, far to the north and east of the more civilized lands, is fabled for its string of long abandoned fortresses, treasure houses, temples and underground mansions. This alone is an invitation for many an adventurer seeking fame and fortune. But it is an altogether dangerous place, tainted with the evil of the Horned One and those who still worship him in hidden caves and darkened temples.

Now, raids and plundering confound the settlements near the Blacktooth Ridge. The armies of King and Lord are warring in the west and few are left to protect this region. Rumors of Rottenkip the Goblin King and his fearless warriors taking up residence in the Blacktooth Ridge are circulating. Ogres and Trolls are raiding villages and looting caravans. Few are coming to the aid of those beset by these depredations and the evil denizens of the Blacktooth Ridge continue to spill out of the Blacktooth Ridge.

The call has gone out, the mustering of militias is at hand and the Blacktooth Ridge beckons to any and all willing to come to their aid and discover what is calling forth these foul creatures.

From the makers of the Castles &: Crusades role playing game comes the first adventure for would be heroes to test their mettle in the heat of combat.

The Adventure begins anew: Now.

Does this version include Back to Blacktooth Ridge and Return to Blacktooth Ridge?

If not, is there a compiled version somewhere (any system)?

Any thoughts on how easy it would be to re-theme the A series into a Norse style setting? Thanks.

Hi Michael -- It would be pretty easy up through the A12 or so. The gods don't play a heavy hand in the adventures. A12 are the gates to Hell, and thouse could as easily be the gates to the norse underworld. You might also consider Codex Nordica: Thanks! Tim

Upon attempting to open the updated file(s) released today (Tuesday, August 9) did anyone else receive the following error message?

"There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading this document (109)."

I see that there are now two files with the exact same name. What is the difference between them?

The file sizes are exactly the same (5,136,997 bytes (5.1 MB on disk) per my Mac), so it looks like it was just a duplication error. I just deleted the second file.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm showing that they don't have the same file size (one is 5,137,881 bytes, and the other is 5,136,814 bytes). They did update the file on January 15, and it really annoys me that the Update section gives you two files to download (the older version and the updated version) without giving you any indication which one is the newer file. This is happening more and more on DriveThru, and if the publisher doesn't state what the specific changes in the update are (which they do occasionally), then it's pretty hard to figure out which file is the new one and which file is the old one.

I just updated another product by a different publisher, and once again, it gave me two files. But the publisher stated that the change was to the map. So I compared the map from the original file with the maps in the two that came with the update, and I was able to spot which one was different, which meant it was the update. I wish all publishers would do that.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
