A king stands in the hight turret of his castle, squinting at the distant hills. He can just make out the figures of his troops engaging the enemy in battle. As a damp breeze whips at his cloak, he contemplates the war. He has culled the best generals, captains, and troops from his land. His court wizard wields powers that unnerve even the most seasonal warriors. Can the forces he commands hold the enemy at bay? Or will the king awake at dawn to the pounding of battering rams and showers of deadly arrows?

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

I used to have this setting back in the day. Fantastic, unique setting, definitely one of my favorites.

Now let's address the elephant in the room. Yes, you, Wizards. Show me who asked you to opine about the morality of this? No one, and I mean *not a single soul in the world* has ever wanted your opinion on morality. Ever. You are *nobody's* moral betters. Shall we talk about the *pedophiles* you allowed as judges in your MTG tourneys?

The authors of Birthright are better people than whatever scumbag that wrote that awful disclaimer will ever be. Richard Baker served our nation in the US Navy, and now you have the nerve to make up false insinuations of "prejudice" about one of our honored veterans?

How *dare* you slander the giants upon whose shoulders you now stand. Shame on you, Wizards, your morality is bad and you should feel bad.

Im pretty sure its just a general statement for all the old/legacy content, doesn't necessarily mean its this one.

I can see where you're coming from, but that doesn't make it any better and their "statement" is still an insult to the developers & fans of the old-school products. If Wizards has such a moral objection to the olden days of TSR (especially the already-bowlderized 2e), then maybe *they should get out of the RPG business.*

Secondly, Wizards is a subsidiary of Hasbro, a massive corporation w/ a net worth of $12.63 Billion dollars. They are not a church, they are not an individual person, & hence, they have no business moralizing on *anything.* Corporations are not human beings, they are not moral agents. As such, they categorically *cannot have* moral opinions on anything, & any attempt to pretend to so so is just the empty words of some paid cubicle-monkey at the PR department.

Corporations have 1 job to do - sell a product or service. Hence, they all need to STFU, stop moralizing down to us, learn their place, & sell the damn product/service. Any attempt by a...See more

It's a totally standard disclaimer that's on almost all old media, since you know, most things are a product of their time. And since Wizards of the Coast has openly stated they are openly and actively working towards a more inclusive game and some old books definitely aren't... They want to make sure that people who like their game because of their current product don't think that old products reflect the current company...

And they don't. Even if you ignore the social/political aspect of it, AD&D 2e is a very, very different creature that D&D 5e. There are different expectations, as players and game masters, and the tone of the game is different too.

Can we please get a POD option for this? Almost every other setting has a POD option and Birthright continues to get the short end.

Is this product printer friendly? I ask, since the original Birthright products had large, full colour water paintings on each page.

Initially missing the battle cards, but these were quickly added. The cardstock "War Chest" was still missing as of July 16, 2014, however (but it's a minor loss).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
