Insults & Injuries: A Pathfinder Sourcebook for Medical Maladies

You have never read a game book quite like this one! Written by a practicing medical doctor, Insults & Injuries presents real world illnesses in Pathfinder game terms. Why afflict characters with “filth fever” when you can give them rabies, the black plague, or the flu?

Within this sourcebook, you will find dozens of sicknesses that your players already know and fear in a format that allows them to be easily and realistically brought into your games. You will also find expanded rules for more effective non-magical healing.

This detailed book is divided into an introduction, 14 chapters, and six appendices and includes:

* Rules for more than 50 diseases and disorders, their game effects, and how they can be treated by both mundane and magical means.

* A chapter on the effects of alcohol, drugs, and poisons.

* A chapter on mental illnesses and their game effects.

* Rules for adjudicating surgical procedures.

* Four new prestige classes dedicated to nonmagical healing, the Alienist, Apothecary, Chirurgeon, and Physician.

* Special rules on the effects of illnesses upon non-Humans like Drow, Dwarves, Elves, Giants, Goblins, and Orcs.

* New spells, equipment, and feats.

With this book, you and your players will never look at diseases the same way again!

K so other thing that has come to mind. Is there any way we could get a layout of what kinds of items we would usually find in the generic "healer's kit" we can buy out of the core rule book? Also any way we can get some ideas of what countries many of these drugs came from and/or more about their origins? Also if you have more that have originated from North America especially pre-colonial options that would be really cool.

So I'm totally loving this book but I have to ask, what are the prices supposed to be on the medicines and drugs? I want to incorporate them but I'm wondering what the price range you assumed for them is supposed to be.

Holy crap! Did this dude write me a 3 page reply?! So I'm still reading through this but before I get much farther I have to give a slow clap, that is way more than I ever expected to hear back. Will read through and see if I have any reply to it.

K so I just finished it, happy to hear that some guidelines will be added! Don't get me wrong the sociopolitical ramifications of the drug trade are amazingly fun things to mull over (for me it will be alchemist hobgoblin coke dealers who sell it as warrior and arcanist combat stims and education enhancers) but having some range to help those of us less familiar with the economic history of these sorts of items will be a big help. Will be so happy to not have to take shots in the dark about whether medical opium is meant to be substantially more or less than the opium wine.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
