Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition

I tell you this: We are Divinity.

Reality is ours to bend. To subvert. To command.
We have that power – all of us.

Not everyone knows what to do with it, or uses it well.
Most of us never realize just what it is we are or how much we can do.

Those of us who do well, some of us are monsters.
Manipulators. Parasites. Tyrants. Fanatics.

And the rest of us never see that monster in our own mirror, only in the reflections of those folks who are not “us.”

Here’s the truth, though: We are ALL “us.” We are ALL gifted,

We can ALL change the world. Most of us remain asleep.

A blessed few Awaken. Fewer still use that power wisely.
And none without consequences.

And so, reality is up for grabs. Where do you stand?

And will you Fall or Ascend?

What’s in it?

• Updated profiles of the Council of Nine Traditions, the Technocratic Union, and the Disparate Crafts... with many unexpected developments.

• An epic history of magick and its factions.

• A compilation and clarification of essential and optional rules, including martial arts, vehicles, hazards, cybernetics, the Otherworlds, and far more besides.

• Overviews of paradigms, practices and tools - the focus of your Art.

• Detailed explorations of the epic concepts involved in Mage.

• Chilling looks at the Nephandi and Marauders.

• The Nine Spheres, plus their Technocratic variants.

• Old favorites and new faces from among the Awakened Ones.

• Reality Zones, Paradox, Quiet, the "coincidental vs. vulgar magick" debate, and far, far more...

• New full color original art by Michael William Kaluta, Echo Chernik, Steve Prescott, Christopher Shy, Larry MacDougall, and other classic Mage artists, as well as classic B&W pieces carefully chosen from the earlier editions.

Note about the Print editions:

Standard Color uses a thinner paper stock than Premium Color, basically the same paper as the Black & White books. This usually means the colors are less vivid, but it also means the price drops a bit per page in the production process.

Examples of pages: Premium Color vs. Standard Color.

No. The leather cover edition was a kickstarter exclusive. The premium edition via DTRPG is a standard cover with slightly higher quality paper than the standard edition.

Any chance you will be putting your product on Roll20 through this website?

They need to offer a Black and White option like they did with Vampire and Werewolf. I'm sorry, but this artwork just looks better in B&W. Maybe that's just my nostalgia for the old days, but I honestly prefer my Vampire and Werewolf in B&W, and would love Mage and (especially) Wraith in B&W.

Onyx Path said they have no current plans on adding a softcover option. For how fragile these books are when they reach a certain page count around 300-400 its kind of disappointing. If you are going to buy this book I recommend you have a spare 130 dollars on hand so you so you can get it rebound by a binder

One would really think that for a book that cost more than 100 dollars plus "premium" shipping, about 30 dollars for it, at the very, very least, someone would ship it in bubbling wrap or would put corner protectors. The book arrived with all its corners damaged. It's not the first time that this has happened. I had bought Beckett's Jyhad diary before and it also arrived in damaged condition. While I understand that Drivethrurpg is not responsible for how the packages are treated at customs or when delivered by UPS, at the very least I would expect it to try to wrap it so it suffers *less* damage. As it arrived only protected by the cardboard envelope, it sure looks they didn't even try. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service.

All things considered, I have to be fair with the review. Despite what I said before, the book looks great itself. Colors look vibrant, everything else looks fantastic, considering it's a book that is pretty much extinct. I wish the pages would be satin paper/gloss or the like, which would undoubtedly raise the price, however. Despite the packaging issues, the book looks great. The content, as everyone knows, it's pretty much the be-all about Mage, which makes it a must for people that don't have a core version of the game/book.

Since there's all sorts of mixed things on the binding: They definitely pushed the limits of what DTRPG's bindings can handle. At least for me, the premium hardcover binding turned out fine, but make sure you know how to "break in" and maintain hardcovers of this size before you get it (there's a few hundred 2-5 minute videos on youtube about how to open a hardcover without cracking its spine).

It's a lot easier to watch a video, but this is how you break in a large hardcover (Works for big comic omnibuses and dictionaries as well): When you get the book, don't just open it. Stand it on its spine, then let the hardcover lay flat with the paper still vertical. From each side, let a few leaves of paper fall. Try to keep it even, and repeat. You should eventually see the end-band curve up and away from the cover (This is the place where all the paper is sewn together). Once you've let all the paper fall down, you should be open to about the halfway point of the book. Close it, and repeat 1-2...See more

100 English pounds for a book to fall to pieces after month of use. Nah mate, keep your XXX. DTRPG is going to price itself out of the print business.

Some light useage. The binding holds. Haven't played yet. Will be hard pressed to find players to make the heavy buy in. Good for the shelf I guess. Or as a "My God look at that!" book to show other RP'ers.

Product: Mage: the Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition - Hardcover, Premium Color Vsersion.

I just received my copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition and I gotta say, I'm over the moon! The printer did a fantastic job on everything from the cover, bining, page printing, and presentation. I should also mention it weights around 5 pounds. It's a behemoth of a tome!

I've been waiting a long time to get my hand on this book and I'm glad I was finally able to get the chance to pick it up.

Goddamn Oynx Path giving me more reading material. Granted, I always wanted to learn about Mage:the Ascension, just very invested in Werewolf.

Have the binding issues, which are frequently cited, been resolved? Or does this remain a persistent problem?

Drivethrurpg/Storyteller's vault has some of the best when it comes to softcover book binding... but when it comes to hardcover (such as this book), they have never improved, even after all these years; the thicker the book, the quicker it will fall apart. Clocking at 696 pages, this book will be no exception.

fundamentally, the binding style ("perfect bound", aka just glued) is not appropriate to the page count. this book should be split into at least two, otherwise it will eternally be a parade of failed bindings and subsequent complaints.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
