The Age of Legend

An age of magic once existed in our world. Lost to history, this time is remembered in the echoes of myth and legend. Humans lived alongside the other Namegiver races—dwarf and elf, troll and ork, windling, t’skrang and obsidiman. The wild places of the world were home to griffins, shadowmants, and other fantastic beasts.

The land was once besieged by the Horrors, foul creatures from the depths of astral space that sought to feed upon and destroy all that was living and good. Their time—the time of the Scourge—has passed, and the people have returned to the surface, reclaiming the lands that were once their home.

Brave heroes band together to explore the land of Barsaive, fighting the Horrors that remain, and protecting their homes and families from those that would enslave them.

The Player’s Guide provides you with the rules for playing characters from First to Eighth Circle, with all the talents, spells, and other tools needed to forge your own legends in the Earthdawn Roleplaying Game!

The Fourth Edition is the newest version of the classic fantasy role-playing game. While this edition revises many of the existing rules systems, the core mechanics and assumptions remain the same. This edition also updates the game setting, advancing the timeline several years. Products using previous editions of the Earthdawn game can be used with Fourth Edition, but may require some conversion to be fully compatible.

What's the difference between the two PDFs?

Why isn't there a Full‑size Preview? And how about showing something more than just the pages that are in color and mention Kickstarter. Just as suggestion, but I would also rethink the black and white; because a lot of publishers are setting their material to color especially the PDF version.

I am looking for a review for this product or for 1879. Are there any out there?

So am I blind or does this book only have half of each discipline, up to Circle 8 instead of 15? Are they coming later, is it something that I missed where you only take up to 8 circles with one discipline, and then something else happens?

In previous editions they were divided up. A Player's Guide for Circle 1 to 8 and a Player's Companion for Circle 9 to 15 (along with additional Knacks, Talents, and Adepts...). This may be happening with this edition...

Ok where is the rest of the game GM guide, world book etc? Is everything in this one book, if so then why call it a Player's Guide?

Very glad FASA and Earthdawn are back. My favorite fantasy RPG of all time. Glad to have contributed on this very successful Kickstarter and hope it's the start of more things to come from this talented group of guys and very well made RPG.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
