Bandit's Nest (Level 1 PCs)

For a level 1 party!

A flock of kenku bandit's have discovered the ruined remains of a temple site, and have used it as their hideout while they raid unsuspecting travelers on nearby roads. It's up to the PCs to clear their nest, recover stolen goods, and rescue their hostages. Will the players be bested by these dirty birds? Or will they have the bandits eating crow?

Bandit's Nest is part of Dungeons on Demand: Volume One.

Dungeons on Demand

Dungeons on Demand is a line instant dungeons you can drop into your campaign, each is designed for 4-5 player parties of specified levels, and each dungeon is complete with a back story, hand drawn maps, traps, puzzles, and reference information to monsters and treasure. You can customize each one to fit in your campaign however you wish, and each one can be played through in one or two gaming sessions.

Player Safe Maps - Maps for each encounter area (and the dungeon as a whole) come prepared for both the players and GMs. Helpful for when you want to give the party something to visualize without revealing hidden monsters, traps, and treasure.

Quick Reference Icons

Quick Reference Icons - GM maps are fully labelled and complete with quick reference icons. These icons give you all the information a GM needs for an encounter area - whether there's monsters lurking to fight, traps the party must contend with, hidden treasure, NPCs to talk to, or a puzzle they must solve. Each icon is given a complete description in the encounter break down.

Combat Difficulty Guages

Combat Difficulty Gauges - Each encounter description provides detailed information on how monsters perform in battle. These gauges allyou to quickly determine how difficult a fight will be for an appropriately leveled party. These gauges rate an encounter from 1 star (very easy) to 5 stars (deadly). Complete with core rulebook page references and full descriptions of custom monsters!

Dungeons on Demand is not affiliated with Wolpertinger Press or Dungeon-on-Demand, but you should definitely check them out!

Author Dan Coleman has been a Dungeon Master for two decades now, first picking up the dice with second edition. He can tell you what THAC0 stands for, a first level fighter's saving throw against rods, staves, and wands, and why players get excited to find "Treasure Type H."

Since then he's been through every new edition, and has written custom classes, spells, items, adventures, and system mods for each. By day he's a humble graphic designer and illustrator, but by night he's a full time role-player and game designer.

I have been running Bandit's Nest as a one-shot at Cons and for first-timers for several years. It is a great adventure for both beginners and experienced PCs. Straight-forward enough for first time players to be able to follow and actively participate, but with enough mystery and tension to keep the experienced gamer intrigued.

I just finished doing a trial run of a version of it on Roll20, and got enthusiastic 'thumbs up' from two DMs, two experienced players, one with 2 months of playing, and one on her first adventure.

My main tweak was to make Lilya more like young Bobbie Draper (The Expanse) on her first assignment, and spitting mad at being captured (thrown rock in the middle of the night while guarding the caravan).

Now I need to build 'Bandit's Revenge' because Chaza and Kremkina got away....

"Kenku understand Common and Auran, but cannot speak either language. Fortunately, kenku are incredible mimics..."

Ummm, ...duh...

Couldn't pass up such a good deal after reading the reviews. The creator also has a KS project that has just over a week left on it. It was there another backer told me about DriveThruRpg and this sweet deal. I think I'll be pickin up a few more now!

Great module. The only very small nit-pick I have is that when I see the yellow trap icon, the yellow makes me think of gold, and the gold makes me think of treasure. Likewise, when I see the red/orange treasure icon, red makes me think of danger, and the color is similar to the hostile creature icon. If the treasure icon were yellow and the trap icon were red/orange, the adventure would be perfect.

Again, I realize this is just a very small nit-pick. Everything else is wonderful. Thank you for this fantastic adventure!

You're very welcome Brian! If I get similar feedback about the icon colors I'll definitely consider changing them. Thanks for your reply!

He has just revised the module with many small improvements to icons, etc. The BIG change is that he has now included player maps! The only real complaint people had. He listened to us and improved it. Way to go!

Nice little module. Clean and simple, while being interesting. Wish it had Player maps, though. The maps provided show where traps and secrets are.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
