T5 Imperiallines 06

Agregar a la ista de deseados >

Welcome…  to the first new issue of Imperiallines in over 20 years.

The original Imperiallines was started by GDW (and editor John Meyers) in 1991 to focus on Traveller and as an adjunct to the more general Challenge Magazine. Intended to be only a few pages, whichever issue was current was included in the Traveller starter box sets. Two issues were produced and distributed, two more written and in pre-production, and one was in draft form when the concept was stopped due to changes and project focus.

Time has passed since then, and several editions of Traveller have been produced. GDW is gone (it closed its doors in 1996) and so is the age of the paper gaming magazine. As I write this only a bare handful survive. Now it is 2014, and a new edition of Traveller has emerged from the mind of Marc Miller. He calls it Traveller5, or T5, or just Traveller; it shares one important characteristic with the prior editions of Traveller: it is not quite like what has come before. New ways of doing, well, everything! New character generation, new combat systems, new tools for making things and people! Some of those tools include a lot of detail, and nothing helps with details better than examples and a helping hand here and there.

This is the first issue of the restart.

In this issue: Contact: Amindii, Walkthru (Sophont Generation Amindii), and Port Of Call: Regina.

Response to Hans, who seems to not have his facts right. As the cartographer, I can speak to all of Hans' points -- which I've already addressed on COTI.

First and foremost, this map was drawn for the specific purpose: to support information in the article. It was not to reproduce an old map. We could have scanned and inserted if we had wanted to do that. Anyone who looks at this map will see many differences between the original (found in Grand Survey, not World Builder's Handbook), including variations in the exact shorelines, terrain (mountains) depicted by color variations rather than line drawings, even a possibly different interpretation of caldera on certain volcanoes.

Second, please note again: this is based on a copy of the ORIGINAL Regina map in Grand Survey. It was supplied to me in a scanned copy. This is not based on the version found in the later World Builder's Handbook. There are slight changes in the latter, including a a difference (intentional or otherwise)...See more

Perhaps the changes could be noted in the publication or a free errata extra sheet? Anyone can publish and help out. That is what these web locales provide

These so-called "errata" are not "errata" at all but a misunderstanding of the purpose of the map and its cultural implications. The game is a game. A few thousand extra Vargr (or an improperly shaded hex) will not prevent me from enjoying this product.

It is a beautiful document and is as good as anything that could be found in the past or future publications. Sometimes errata hunting and "bug squashing" is fun for the critic but not for anybody else. Especially these kind of complaints which seem to be a little heated. Just my feelings. An excellent product with compelling possibilities for interesting play sessions. I think there was errata in the core book but nothing so significant as to make play impossible

Thank you for the kind words. Much of the beauty results from the use of available tools in the Campaign Cartographer/Cosmographer program from Profantasy.

The population of Regina is said to be 46 million humans and 17 million Amindii. That makes for a population level of 7 and a population multiplier of 6. The correct values are pop level of 8 and a pop multiplier of 7. The total should be a bit over 700 million (it's 734 in 1120, so is probably some millions less in 1105). And IIRC 3% of the population are Aslans, so that's another 21 million to be accounted for. I also think there should be a few percent Vargr, but that could be fanon. However, canon or not, I submit that a world that has been a major trade center very close to the Vargr Extents for many centuries really ought to have some Vargr citizens. If you want to preserve the ratio of humans to Amindii, 498 million humans, 178 million Amindii, 19 million Aslans, 21 million Vargr, and one million other non-humans, for a total of 717 million, might work. Just a suggestion.

There are a few errors with the map of Regina:

The desert on Noncredo covers one hex too much land. The northenmost...See more

Imagen escaneada
