DriveThruRPG Game Master Screen (landscape)

GM Screen

Many GMs consider a Game Master Screen to be core item for a gaming table. Along with dice, miniatures and maps, it's a gaming accessory that gets used and re-used over many years of gaming.

We wanted to offer the very best screen we could find, so we've partnered with Hammerdog Games to make their TWGS (The World's' Greatest Screen) available on DriveThruRPG both as a stand-alone and also in combination with screen inserts from many top roleplaying game publishers.

  • Made of durable vinyl
  • Re-usable and customizable for any game system

This is truly the only GM Screen you will ever need to buy. Made from durable vinyl material, the four panel screen has eight clear pockets (one on each side on each panel) to hold sheet inserts. As you change campaigns or game systems, you need only remove and replace the inserts with the tables, charts and quick reference materials you need most for whatever game you're playing at the moment. Likewise you can change out the inserts facing your players to hold art, maps, handouts or other visuals pertinent to tonight's game session.

For your convenience, many publishers offer ready-made inserts as downloads and as pre-printed cardstock sheets here on DriveThruRPG.

Each of the eight screen pockets holds an 8.5" x 11" page.

Screens are available in landscape and portrait orientation so choose whichever model you prefer. This product is the landscape orientation screen.

I was so happy to find this, but the shipping cost to my location makes the price over double the item's price. Back to searching an EU friendly customizeable gm-screen.

was about to buy this and saw that shipping was an additional 50% of the cost of the product.
No thanks.

I purchased this with the GM screen inserts for Numenera. The first GM screen arrived with a crack in one spine and the covering had a slight rip in a separate section. I contacted Drivethrurpg customer support, shared some photos and they immediately worked to mail a new one my way. I got the second GM screen in the mail, and this one had one area separating at the top and one small crease in one binding section. Damage was less on this one, but still not to the quality I would expect. I have sent an email back to customer support noting that I appreciated the good customer service, that the 2nd one was was also damaged, and that I would just live with it - I didn't want them to send out a third replacement. I've encouraged them to work with their supplier to check inventory, re-evaluate the product, and/or to consider improved packaging for shipment. I saw a similar comment on the Numenera screen listing about a cracked screen being sent as part of their shipment, but luckily I'm seeing more comments here about...See more

bought this with screen inserts so I can't review it >_> I guess I'll add a few comments here. I imagine a lot of people got it like I did, hence only one review?

Yes, shipping is spendy, it was over $12 for me, but to be fair this thing is a bit on the heavy side and isn't small dimensionally. Everything came packed well (I got two sets of "premium cardstock inserts") and mine was in good condition. It's a very sturdy feeling product and pretty well made, my only (minor) gripe would be that much like the old basic school binders of yore it has a lineage with, the clear sleeves feel easily stretchable and get ripples relatively easily.

As a whole, it's nice enough I plan to buy the portrait screen, too, when a time comes that I GM a game with only a portrait screen.

I planned to buy this but discovered the shipping was over $15 going by priority. It would be cheaper to send it by regular mail but they don't offer that. I will do without and save the $15 shipping. I'm so disappointed in DriveThruRPG.

I received a coupon to help offset the shipping so I bought it. I just received it and was surprise how nice it is. It is very sturdy and well made. It is worth the price, but not worth almost the full cost of it for shipping.

A bit of a shame that the shipping is more expensive than the actual product... the thing costs 21 euros but shipping is 30

I purchased 1, wanted to purchase another 1 because the product is very nice, but the shipping to Canada is insane. No offense, you offer great products but the shipping costs are ridiculous.

I saw you managed to change the shipping costs for a canadian customer (i'm from Montreal, Quebec). I really want to buy another one, but with the current shipping price, i'ts a big nono.

I would love to pay you for your product; i refuse to pay again more for the shipping than the screen itself. Hopefully there's something that can be done because it's a real shame, you offer great products. Thank you for your time.

I was going to purchase this but shipping is almost twice the price of the product itself!. Any chance you can get this on amazon?

I like the setup of the GM screen, but I think once I've placed inserts in the sleeves, it probably won't compact down quite so nicely.
The inserts I got are for the Mythras RPG, but I recently decided against using that system, so I'll probably end up making my own pages, most likely coming up with a home-brewed system. I hope the artwork that was provided won't cause any copyright issues for Hammerdog Games.
Letter format works just fine for my needs, but I feel sorry for the folks who are boxed in by the A4 format.
By the way, I wanted to post this as a review, but its tab doesn't allow me to do that.
For whatever reason, I'm not listed as a "purchaser", even though I bought it here on DTRPG. Oh, well.

11.98 shipping is a little extreme guys. Can you drop the price to compensate?

Is this made for letter only or can you fit in DIN A4 without cutting too?

Hello DTRPG,
It seems no matter how high or low one searches, it seems attempting to purchase one of these units costs more in shipping than in price even to the far away planet of Ontario, Canada. Is there any way to address the extrordinary $39 shipping cost to a country connected by land or is Canada just as alien as Europe, Australia and Saturn? $87 local currency for cardboard and vinyl isn't realistic in any way to anyone

We are painfully aware of how painful the international shipping is currently on our printed card, poster and GM Screen products. We are using US post office rates direct from the USPS server, so this is unfortunately the real cost without any markup.
We are exploring other options for these shipments but so far have found nothing workable as a better alternative. We continue to explore options.

Hello Steve,
Thank you for the fast reply. Indeed, a reality all Canadians face is the extraordinarily expensive costs to ship products frequently shorter distances. As a regular online shopper, I have a very close understanding of the postage system both on my side and your side of the border. My issue stems from your reply not being a commonality across other vendors as well as not offering every availability. A carton weighing 2lbs measuring 13x9x2 shipped economy shouldn't be any more than $14-$18 and is more than sufficient to protect the product in drop shipping. Even UPS with the same specifics shouldn't be more than $24-$28. USPS priority is the most expensive option across DHL, Purolator and UPS and is typically no safer than the typical economy option in my experience.

I am well aware many companies have incentives from shipping companies to offer lower rates (Amazon for example), but am excluding those types of offers with my information as that reduction in shipping cost is...See more

After your last comments we did more digging into the way our rates were being calculated for GM Screens and found a bug in our code. The bug related to the way we pair printed GM Screen inserts (which many publishers offer here on DriveThru) with the vinyl screen itself. When the printed inserts are purchased with the screen we calculate the shipment weight by adding the weight of the inserts and screen together. The bug made it so that when you buy a screen stand-alone without inserts, the code was taking the weight of the screen and then adding to it the weight of the screen, thus doubling the actual weight and calculating shipping rates off of that.
We've fixed the bug and it is currently $16.45 in shipping to get a screen to you in Canada. As thanks for your help here, we've added a $16.45 credit to your account so you can get a screen with free shipping (or use the credit however you like on site).

Thank you very much for taking the time to look into this deeper. I am overjoyed to assist in finding a bug and am very glad to see a standard postal rate that fits more to what I am accustomed to. I hope with the system calculating International shipping rates correctly that others that have had similar issues as this will now be able to seriously consider these.
Additionally, I sincerely appreciate the credit you placed onto my account as well. It was an unexpected generosity that will not be forgotten, thank you!

What is the difference between Hammerdog's TWGS and Strategem's Master's Tome customizable GM screen? They seem to be the top two customizable GM screens i've been able to find online. Are they essentially the same in quality and construction or is one preferable to the other? I'm looking for something durable--i'm wary of the plastic cover on the insert pockets tearing if the GM screen is used often. Another thing i'm wary of is the GM screen cracking along the folds that unite the panels. Heartfelt thanks to anyone caring to answer.

Resurrecting this old question, but seeing as I now have both and no one has answered this many others (like myself) may bare this question as well. So I will attempt to remain objective in a comparison analysis:
Hammerdog's TWGS: Measures 3.65mm inner core thickness, 17.9mm total closed with sheets. This premium vinyl product, similar to a premium Avery viewfront binder, has a glossy but absolutely clear front/side/back. Text and pictures are very visible and observable from any angle. The drawback to this type of material is it is prone to damage in particular ways (which the manufacturer warns on the product to their credit), namely heat and pressure warping the product or transferring ink from its contained page to the interior of the clear front. It snuggly fit my 8.5x11 printout on 110lb cardstock (thicker paper for easier in/out transferring). Finally, the inner core as well as the outer vinyl are both of thicker gauge comparatively.
Stratagem Master's Tome: Measures 2.62mm inner core...See more

Looks great. How thick is it? Is the structural material stiff card, like three-ringed binders tend to be?
Customer avatar
Steve W July 29, 2017 2:08 am UTC
I don't have the exact thickness, but yes it's stiff and similar to the heavy-duty three ring binders in terms of materials.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
