Hi, I'm super interested in this product.
I play 5e and don't know anything about path finder.
How viable is it to try to use/convert this product for a 5e campaign?

I do not have the book or pdf yet, but looking around, multiple portions (not checked if all) of it have been converted to a compatible 5e format and are listed under Kobold Press 5e products portion on their publisher page.

Its a great book. Lots and lots of great stuff! I really can't stress this enough...

Some of the options for spellcaster in the first chapter seem very sketchy. They would be hard to drop or use in my campaign without more rework. Also a number of them reference other Kobold products (which i don't mind, but in the interest of full disclosure).

The spell seem well balanced for the level, though of course, YMMV (your mileage may vary). Most of them work just fine, others are ... odd and and have specialized uses. But hey, in a world of magic, who is to say that specialized spell for what-have-you aren't around?

Over all I am very satisfied with my purchase and I love the book. Highly recommended. It gets the creative juices flowing!

Are there any plans to release this as a HeroLab datafile? I know this is a significant undertaking considering the size of the book and the potential complexity of some of the elements but I'd pay a little extra for the datafile over and above the PDF cost.

Yes, it definitely is a significant undertaking. Fortunately, the Kobold Press has had a team working on a HeroLab datafile for a couple months, and they expect to submit it to Lone Wolf for testing soon.

It's tentatively going to ship at the end of May, but might slip into June. Price hasn't been set yet.

That's fantastic - I'll be the first in line when it is available. :)

Tossing in my support of this, will definitely buy both products once the data file goes live for HL

So how long before we see it in print?
Customer avatar

Well, it's in print now and available at the Kobold Press store and at the Paizo store. The book weighs about 3 pounds and is a meaty, meaty tome.

Supported this product through Kickstarter and really have to say I'm impressed. Lots (nearly 400 pages) of new material to add to spellcasters of all types, expanding the options available to a massive degree. Although I've only done a cursory overview of the book so far I especially liked the Leyline, Vril, Glyphs, and Rune material. The new Ioun stone material was a nice touch as well. Also was highly impressed with the artwork. Overall this is a great product.

This really is a must have for anyone who plays Pathfinder. Actually, for anyone who is a table top player and they want to further explore the great and fantastic powers of magic. If you need something to spice up your campaign or are looking for something different then just that stereotypical sorcerer or wizard that solves all their problems with a fireball, then look no further.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
