GENERALA is the gamified dungeon-crawling party game you never knew you wanted!

It takes its name from the dice game it's based on, one you already know - players roll a boat load of dice and try to make poker hands with the result. The better the hands, the higher the score, the higher the score the better you do. Sounds like a silly way to run a dungeon? That's because it is!

GENERALA is a goofy dungeon-plundering game where players take on the roles of big dumb heroes bashing their way through monster after monster in search of treasure. The system rewards exciting, over-the-top action and is easy enough for anyone to learn.

Everything you need to play is included in this book!

  • An easy point-buy character system that gets you exactly the character you want
  • Skills are action-oriented, no social-interaction here!
  • No class limits on weapons, if you've got the stats you've got the weapon!
  • The GM's section walks game masters through designing dungeons suited to the party.
  • Pre-generated characters show character possibilities
  • Three Three sample dungeons get you up and killing monsters right away -
    • The Cult of Ad Mac Mon pits players against a suicidal sewer-dwelling cult!
    • The Tomb of Han'ka Zaria is home to a magic mummy and his mummy dogs!
    • The Toast Tower of Arn Furnace is full of deadly robot dwarves!
  • Plus enough goofy skills for fighters, mages, rangers, thieves, bards, necromancers, psionicists, and clerics to satisfy the most curmugeonly old-school player!

This compiled PDF version is only available from DTRPG, but you can test out the system today at

Nice design with plenty of support marred by gimmicky attribute titles.

My issue was more that, at character creation, it isn't even possible to have a character that can possibly succeed at a standard check for more than half their attributes. Not without expending resources. And if you pick as average an attribute spread as possible, your odds with the other half aren't great either.

Encouraging specialization is okay, and I haven't played so maybe the expending will dice to even be able to succeed works fine, but it still strikes me as odd that it's likely, not even just possible, but likely, that only one character in the party will have a decent shot at any given check.

I do really like the overall elegance of the system though. I just think the odds need tweaking to be a little more forgiving on things you haven't specialized for.

Specialization is actually the point of the system. It's designed to give characters roles in the party. It's also not meant as a detailed or realistic system, it's meant to be "gimmicky" and funny and silly. If the non-seriousness of the game turns you off, by all means message me and I'll give you your $2 back.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
