Quick Decks 6: Frontier Starports

Starships aren't built in a studio; they're forged in the Ironworks.

In a hurry for a 25 mm deckplan? Don't have time to sit down and draw one up? Then Quick Decks are for you. In this Expansion Pack you will find 46 pages of pre-drawn map tiles scaled to 25 mm. Simply print, cut them out, and arrange them to build a starship properly scaled for miniatures. Each tile has it's own grid, the type of tile, and approximate displacement in Traveller tonnage listed on it, making it easy to build ships (and now starports) on the fly.

In addition, the last 3 pages are scaled vector images depicting 3 facilities - a small repair bay for ships up to 200 tons, a warehouse facility, and a repair facility for small craft. This particular expansion is aimed at smaller, frontier starports (Class C and D), and include tiles for landing pads, security checkpoints, runways, starport concourses, boarding ramps, a small hotel, control towers, fuel facilities, and more.

As always, Quick Decks features:

  • Greyscale images to speed up printing and save on printing costs.
  • Completely scalable vector graphics - tiles can be printed at virtually any size, with minimal loss of detail (requires Adobe Acrobat X).
  • Layers, allowing users to turn various parts of the tiles on and off for viewing.
  • Tiles can be used to lay out all kinds of ports, from one-man frontier stations to bustling terminals on more developed worlds.

Future expansions to the line will add more options, and expand your ship-building (and now, planetary-building) capability to new dimensions. Current plans include tiles for hangars, launch tubes, barracks, armories, bay weapons, and more. Also in the works are tiles for buildings, terrain, starports, and space stations.

Updated for compatibility with 2d6 OGL Sci-Fi and Cepheus Engine systems.

I was not able to get the layers to work or to set the scaling on this product.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
