"My general opinion of this book is that it offers most interesting variant barbarians of any D20 supplement I have seen (even Unearthed Arcana). Its hard to imagine a better value for $2 US." (more)

(8 out of 10) "Planar Mauraders are something that would have made a nice addition from way back in the Planescape days of AD&D, and are no less welcome now. These are Barbarians who have made an entire tribal lifestyle out of being adventurers. The Rage ability is gained at 4th level; it is less-powerful (statwise) than the standard form, but has elemental (and later other planar) enhancements that make it far more versatile. Plane Shift is gained at 9th level, and at 15th the Planar Maurader is immune to the hazzards normal to a plane, such as fire immunity on the Plane of Fire. These are powerful abilities, but are nearly essential to the class's role." (more)

"Normally I reserve this section for mentioning anything wrong with the product in question. You know what? I can't think of a single thing... The best thing about Unorthodox Barbarians is that it is original. Instead of the generic round of berserkers we're treated to mighty war leaders, powerful pirates, and fierce horse warriors. Unique powers and realistic new perspectives make for whole new worlds of gloriously uncivilized role-playing." (more)
-- Travis Lee,

" This is one of the best books in the series, which is saying quite a bit as they have all been superb. So, go wild, grab a great axe, and get ready to show those civilized punks what might the savages can bring to the table." (more)
-- Wayne Tonjes,

There are five new fully-playable 20-level classes in The Le Games? ?Unorthodox Barbarians,? and while it would have been easy for writer Robert J. Grady to put together simple variants of the barbarian class (note that I didn?t capitalize the ?b? in [...]

I got this book as part of the Bundle with Unorthodox Paladins and Monks. It?s a great buy if I might say so. This book was my second favorite out the group (I got it mainly for the PLD one) as I generally dislike Barbarians in general. All of these [...]

I had this on my "wish list" for some time before I rewarded myself one weekend and bought it. It is okay. I think I wanted and expected something more out of it. shrug That may just be me. Of the classes presented, there was only [...]

I love the Unorthodox series. My campaign world - or rather the PCs and NPCs - would all be too much alike for my taste without them. Unorthodox Barbarians is especially needed, I feel, as barbarians from the PHB are all berserkers with very little var [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
