Monstrous Heroes Fight for Redemption...

Witches have ruled the land since the last battles of conquest, but their Grand Coven has been sundered, leaving behind remnants of a once-mighty army. The survivors of the horde include captured citizens of the conquered nations that fought as the Witches’ shock troops.

"I love it. Great graphics, great art, great writing, and a fantastic premise."

—Shane Hensley, Creator of Savage Worlds

These are the Accursed—the Witchmarks burned into their flesh and souls transformed these men and women into monsters. Now, unable to return to their former lives, the Accursed wander the land, giving aid to those in need in an attempt to atone for past sins.

" secretly slipped Ravenloft some PCP."

—Abstruse of AICN Tabletop

Light has failed, darkness is ascendant. Only those bearing the forms of monsters can stand against the tide of the Witches’ evil. The Accursed are this world’s only hope—they must learn to embrace their curse or to fight against it, and find some way to free themselves forever of their Witchmark.
Accursed is a dark fantasy setting that requires the Savage Worlds Core Rules and Savage Worlds Horror Companion for use. It includes background information on the nations of Morden. Game mechanics include horrific new Witchbreeds for use as playable characters, along with Setting Rules, Hindrances, Edges, and Powers suited to telling stories set in Morden. The full setting guide also includes detailed information on eight of the Witches and their banes, as well as a range of adventure hooks and a plot point campaign.

This PDF uses layers for ease of printing.

A player's guide is also available, which excludes information about the Witches, banes, and the adventures (pp. 112–150).

There's a Free Conversion Guide for using this setting book with Savage Worlds Adventure Edition.

Buyers also receive a fillable PDF character sheet.

Softcover, Standard Hardcover, or Premium Hardcover?

We offer three different versions of the book at three different pricepoints, to offer customers the best possible range of options. The difference between softcover is fairly clear, but the difference between standard and premium is more subtle. Softcover is perfect bound, where the hardcover is casebound, leading to a slightly larger book. Here's that comparison:

Hardcover - Softcover Comparison

Premium copies use a thicker grade of paper, resulting in a thicker book. That thicker paper is also better suited to holding the printing ink. The most obvious difference is visible in the cirspness of the text, but there is also a subtler difference when comparing the saturation of the color artwork. Here's a comparison of the Standard and Premium hardcover editions:

Are there any plans to update this after the SWADE Horror Companion comes out? Setting looks amazing, but I'm pretty hesitant to buy something based off of an older version of the rules at the moment.

Hi, Matt,
We released a (free) conversion guide for SWADE. If/when PEG announces a SWADE Horror Companion, we'll likely revisit the conversion guide.

I love the storyline, the world, the Witchbreeds, and especially the Witches. I dig the limited magical mechanics highly, since I'm generally not an epic-fantasy type GM.

However, I'm a little bummed that I spent $50.00 on the Premium hardcover to find a typo on the first page; but other than needing a more careful copy editor (occasionally clumsy grammar/ mistakes throughout), this book is solid. It hurts to see careless errors in a game of this quality, but hopefully the Revised version adds some of the DLC adventures into the main book (150 pages feels thin... there's so much more that could have been included) and fixes the mistakes.

Does anyone else think twenty bucks is a bit expensive for a PDF of a campaign setting book that requires two separate books just to be able to use it? I think the setting sounds fantastic, but the price point could be greatly improved.

I agree. You are looking at an investment of 40 bucks just to have the pdfs to play. Especialy when you concider the array of settings for SW that are available much cheaper and only require the SW core.

I respect your opinions, and I will not attempt to dissuade you from them. Our standard retail pricing is at the lowest level that we can afford to make it, based upon our business model and our costs of production. We have no plans to change it at this time.

In light of Christopher Helton's recent article at EN World, I was reminded that I'd made this comment over a year ago. I'd realized before the article was posted that my view was wrong-headed, but due to the many people who have gone on record to disagree with Mr. Helton's take that people like myself shouldn't gripe about the prices of books that are expensive to produce, I figured I'd take the time to publicly admit that I was wrong.

@Matt M - I deeply respect the courage it took to make that retraction. Thank you for doing so.

i don't think you are wrong. i would be in the market for this game if it were $15 to buy in.

maybe the price is fair for the production value. so, make a premier version for those who want it. make a nice, simple PF version for those who can't afford it.

i can't throw $40 at every single setting i'm interested in. but, if you do get my foot in the door, i WILL buy the supplements and extras.

if you ask me, you are leaving money on the floor by making the barrier to entry so high.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
