AutoHARP Fantasy

AutoHARP Fantasy

EXE File

AutoHARP Fantasy software combines a Character Creator and a Combat Tracker, both of which are fully compatible with HARP Fantasy.

The Character Creator has:

  1. Full Wizard for creating new characters. Hybrid race creation included as well as full support for human based characters and clerical based characters. Full support for Adolescence and profession rank selection, cleric base spell lists and talent selection for certain professions.
  2. Easy access to character traits, offenses, defenses, skills, talents, magic, statistics, and equipment
  3. Ability to print full character sheet with avatar, frequently used skills, RR information, Initiative information, BMR information, offensive attacks: both melee and missile, skills, spells, and equipment.
  4. Fully customized database written in XML allows the user to easily adjust information as specific worlds or house rules.

The Combat Tracker has the ability to:

  1. Create, edit, open and save encounters
  2. Create, edit, import or duplicate characters which make up an encounter.
  3. Customize the character's level, hit points, power points, Stamina, BMR, Armor, talent and shield DB, size, focus item, casting penalty as well as create a character that doesn't take stun, penalties or bleeding criticals.
  4. Keep track of all spells, attacks, maneuvers, initiatives, character statuses, etc.

The download contains the HARP Fantasy database and for convenience, a copy of the executable software application. The software works under Windows and most Linux distributions. Use the exe files for Windows and the jar files for Windows or Linux - note the jar files require the Java Runtime Environment. Note that updated versions of the executable are available via the developer's Sourceforge page.

Hi there, I purchased AutoHARP and the additional available data packages a few days ago and really like the software. However, I have a problem in that I cannot print. I posted on the Sourceforge page last night but haven't heard back and have tried to access the ICE software forums but the ICE website is down.

Essentially what happens is if I go to print, it pops open Google Chrome with a generic Harp SF character sheet named "Jack Kanyon". I didn't load HARP SF data package and I'm making a HARP Fantasy character, so I'm not sure why that's this is the case. I've re-installed the program and data packages 3 times now, tried saving the character to different locations, etc. Nothing has changed. I'm running Windows 7, if that information helps. Any aid in resolving this issue would be great. Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem. I've been looking on the ICE Forum page as well, and found no solution.

Also loading the EXE version doesn't create a AutoHarp.EXE but does create an Autoharp-release.exe, so the link in the menu on windows does work.

I have repeated the installation multiple times and it keeps crashing, I have all the add-on also but when I get to stats it crashes, also at the stats it no long says the stats only numbers. I just bought this a couple days ago so should be the latest version. Looking for help if any is still around.

I've installed this 10 times in one day, sometime the items do not load and the only way to get them is a reinstall, now the stat names show as numbers and no racial stats are displayed. The power points don't calculate in any install.

I'm pretty sure the bugs are a conflict between the base module and the expansions but I'm getting bored of testing at this stage.

If this had been free I would have given up hours ago but I paid $40, pretty poor for such a seasoned program. Any bug fixes planned any time soon?

I'm sorry you are experiencing difficulties. However I do not know how to duplicate this as I don't have any information on what modules you are installing and when. Installation of AutoHARP happens with the first main application FIRST. Then you install the secondary databases, whichever ones you have downloaded. Once there you need to make sure you select yes to install the database when you run AutoHARP. It's also a good idea to check the "Manage Books" under tools to make sure that the databases are installed properly. Are you running this under windows? OSX? Linux? If you are running this under OSX, this is a brand new part of the application and I am very unfamiliar with installation procedures with OSX so it's both a learning experience for me and for users.

Also I wish users would not rate the product until I have at least had a chance to address their issues. Ratings are permanent and I may be able to fix the issue.

I believe I followed the install correctly and I am running the exe files through a standard windows 10 platform.

The statistics issue was resolved by turning off the Magic and Arms modules statistic files in the books section, however whenever I load either of the expansions the items drop down menu stops working leaving only a blank space purchasable. Turning off the expansion books does not fix the issue.

Awesome. That gives me more to work with. It sounds like their is a conflict happening between the modules themselves. Open Manage Books and check out what is happening with the what databases are being used by which modules. The proper databases which should be checked are "all" modules that are labeled as collective, and only the book you want when it comes to databases labeled "single". I recommend having all the AutoHARP databases checked and making sure the add on database modules that are labeled "collective" checked and those labeled "single" not checked. "Collective" means that the program is going to return all information from all books when it makes a database call and "single" means it will return only that book when it makes a database call. That is it will call only that book. If you, for example, select Martial Arts:Statistics as checked, this is a database that is marked "single" but it contains no statistics information. It...See more

Any chance of a mac compatable version?
Customer avatar
David K January 12, 2017 2:21 pm UTC
A mac compatible version is FINALLY on the way. I had to acquire a mac first. I have it compiled and a version should soon see the light of day in the next month here. I'm expecting a February release for a Mac OSX version.

With version 1.0.6 there should no longer be any issues of partial installation. The one install file included will install both the application and the full database.

Have you guys ever considered publishing an app for smart phones and tablets? This sounds like it would be perfect around the gaming table, but I never have a PC within reach when we're rolling.

I've thought about it, but it's not gotten further than that. Current technology has tablets and laptops converging making a tablet act a lot more like a laptop. Current example the Surface. I haven't even looked into the amount of work it would require. Android would be a lot easier than iOS. In hindsight, I honestly don't know.

I have actually looked into this further with positive results. An AutoHARP tablet version is definitely in the works. I'm currently trying to ascertain what IDE platform to use (Xamarin or native) and which platform to target first (iOS or Android). This will happen, however it may not be a reality for at least another year.

I want to post a definitive answer for those people who may be reading this and are curious as the negative feedback given. The feedback that is given seems to stem from an incomplete installation. This incomplete installation is not the software, but the user not completing the steps when it comes to installation. There are two installation files when you purchase Harp Fantasy or Harp Sci-Fi. The first is the actual application itself which contains a barebones database. This is the database that is causing people to think the software is faulty. This is NOT the case. The Harp Fantasy database is the next step in the installation process that completes the application and gives the user the full database.

I also want to clear up another issue where you may feel there is not way to contact the author. This again is false. The problem here is that users are not going to the Help section of the application (something I thought would be obvious and rudimentary) where you will find all the information...See more

Goran T, see my post below yours. Sounds like you are having the same issue as others. It's not a showstopper. You just haven't installed the Fantasy Database yet. It would be great if people would contact me first before stating this software is useless. I'm here, I'm available and I will fix issues when they come up. The last thing I want people to think is this is a waste of $20.

Hey folks. Save your money. This thing doesn't work in version 1.05. Bugs are frequent and showstopper kind - can't create certain classes etc. I spent $40 on this with the addons and it is worthless.

When you purchase this download you will get an .exe for AutoHarp and you will get an .exe for the Database. If you are running Ubuntu then you will need to run the .jar files. You need to install the main application first named AutoHarp. After you install this you will notice the database contains a minimalist amount of data. However you still have the AutoHarp Fantasy Database .exe to install. Run that and make sure you install the files into the AutoHarp folder which was just created when you installed AutoHarp. Once you do that, you should have a full database.

If you have further questions or concerns you can go to either the IronCrown website or to the SourceForge page for the application located at There you can create tickets for issues you are having. I try and read both the Iron Crown Website and the SourceForge website for any technical issues people are having. That is, "I" as in the author of this application. :)

As I look through things there are a number of things missing from the download I got. There are only two weapon charts, two classes from the HARP rulebook and no Cleric. There are only two spell lists from the HARP core rules. I re-downloaded, uninstalled and re-installed the software and the purchased databases. If I had known I needed to create the XML for all but two classes, charts, and spell lists, I wouldn't have purchased AutoHARP Fantasy. If any of you know where I can find information on the XML so I can create the tables I need, it would be appreciated.

I purchased AutoHARP Fantasy and there are only two character classes included. Fighter and Warrior Mage. Should the rest of the basic character types be included?

Use .exe files if running on Windows, use .jar for Unix

I must install all files?

Only install the files for your operating system. (exe = Windows and .jar = Ubuntu) Install BOTH files. The AutoHarp.exe install file is the main application. This is NOT the database. The database file is the one called HarpFantasy.exe (or similar). This file completes the installation.

I should separate the files into folders. This is will happen for version 1.0.6 which is coming out soon. I may also bundle the software so the whole database is installed automatically since you are not the first one to run into this. ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
