BLUEHOLME™ Prentice Rules

Suggested Price $0.00

BLUEHOLME™ Prentice Rules is a table top fantasy roleplaying game that emulates the game play of the original basic rule book, popularly known as the Holmes Edition or simply the Blue Book. The rules in this book allow for characters of 1st to 3rd levels, and include everything the referee could possibly need to create and run a campaign in the Underworld: monsters, magic, treasure, and … well, what more do you need?

I like that the PDF includes a full view of the great blue cover, but the thumbnail view in my reader doesn't show the title of the book etc. Would it be possible to update the PDF so that the PDF cover looks more like the thumbnail here in the store (with title, etc.)? Maybe also include the unobstructed version at the end of the book?

Hmm, the PDF has the same cover as the hardcover, and the preview. What PDF reader are you using? Good idea about including the "clean" art, though - I'll see about that in the next update.

On the Mac, iPhone, and iPad using built-in or Adobe Acrobat PDF viewers the cover is just the beautiful blue picture of the dragon standing behind the adventurers. There's no text at all on the cover.

FYI both front and back covers render as plain white pages on iPhone Safari and Books in the latest download.

Is the art in the full version better? I heard there was a kickstarter. The art in this version is bad.....

The Journeymanne Rules contains purpose-made original art, though I would hesitate to say it was objectively "better" - and there are few who would agree that Henry J. Ford can be considered "bad" by any standard ... ;-)

Everyone has their opinions. I just do not like the art in the free version. I was considering buying a hardcopy book, and saw there was a past Kickstarter, so was hoping for new art.

The Journeymanne Rules have art by a host of artists including Russ Nicholson - you can check out the full list on the Kickstarter page:

Dang! At least one line dropped out of my review, making it incoherent at the start of the 2nd paragraph! No comments about the first paragraph being incoherent too.

No worries, it made sense to me! ;-)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
