The Jester Dragon's Guide to Defects

Even as characters can have Feats that give them particular aptitudes and enhance their various skills and capabilities, so too can they suffer from Defects that negatively affect their ability to function. Such Defects can be used to make games more fun and unpredictable, and even more plausible.

The Jester Dragon’s Guide to Defects is a complete sourcebook that details hundreds of character flaws, mental disorders, physical abnormalities, medical conditions, and outright quirks that DMs and players can use to liven up their characters and campaigns. This book contains:

* More than 230 Defects, from minor faults to fatal flaws.

* Defects appropriate for any genre, including High Fantasy, Swords-and-Sorcery, and Space Opera.

* Innovative “Metagame” Defects that can affect players as well as their characters.

* Additional rules for potion miscibility, wearing glasses, and phobias.

* More than 30 humorous cartoon illustrations.

This book was inspired by concepts introduced in the best-selling Nuisances: Director's Cut. We very much hope you will find it to be useful and enjoyable!

We have released a revised, updated, and expanded edition of our Adamantine-bestselling City Builder: A Guide to Designing Communities! This edition of the book has been thoroughly rewritten, re-edited, redesigned, re-illustrated, and expanded from 172 to 240 pages and from 70 to 85 entries devoted to places characters might visit in the course of their adventures. It is a universal resource designed to help storytellers create exciting and compelling communities and places within them and is intended to be compatible with the needs of any ancient, Dark Ages, Middle Ages, Renaissance, fantasy, or other role-playing milieu.

I absolutely adore this source book! It offers a fun addition to any D20 system by giving you the option to add some really great quirks to your character. Said quirks not only make your character more interesting, they can also make playing your chara [...]

Good book, defects as an "anti-feat" is a straight forward and easy to include mechanic for adding character flaws. There's a nice balance of flaws for fantasy and sci-fi, with many of them being relevant for both sorts of settings. The art [...]

“The Jester Dragon’s Guide to Defects,” is a must-have resource for d20/OGL players. Feats are wonderful ways by which you can distinguish your character from someone else’s but all that really accomplishes is telling you how that character is [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
