Mythic Magazine is a monthly ezine with tips, rules, and more goodies for the Mythic Role-Playing System, Mythic Game Master Emulator, and Crafter Series from Word Mill Games.

This issue contains:

  • One-Page Mythic: A super simplified version of the Mythic Game Master Emulator, condensing the rules to a single page. Mythic doesn't get any simpler than this!

  • Handling Long Journeys In Solo Play: It's time to hit the road! This article details a systematic way to conceptualize and guide long journeys in solo play.

Happy adventuring!

I love One Page Mythic. Quick and easy to use. I tried showing a friend the original rules and he got confused. This works better, at least for getting started, with adding Chaos Factor and the other rules later.

I hope that 2e does not do away with the chaos factor and like the one pager in this edition. This is one of my favourite elements of Mythic and sets it in its own unique place when compared to imitations or similar systems.

Hi Robin, thank you for the post :) The Chaos Factor is very much alive and well in Mythic GME 2e. I agree, the CF is a very "Mythic" part of Mythic. 2e does include options for minimizing the CF's influence on Fate Questions, but that's part of a wide range of customization options.

For One-Page Mythic I set the challenge to reduce Mythic to a single sheet of paper. I just couldn't fit the Chaos Factor into it.

Hi Tana, thanks for taking the time to reply. :) This is very good to know and totally understand the restrictions of a one page challenge. Looking forward to seeing 2e and what clever mechanics you come up with!

I for one don't use the chaos factor so I appreciate the fact that 2E also added a small non-chaos chart variant. I just heard about this all-in-one one-page without the chaos in this magazine, so thank you for that.

Would be nice if in the download there is included a standalone pdf of the one page emulator.

No worries on the double post :) That's a good suggestion. I didn't list this in the magazine because it was such a late addition to the file, but there is an option in the pdf for removing the background. If you go to the Layers navigation panel, you'll find a layer in the pdf. Click on the drop down and you should see an unchecked box for "Printer friendly one-page Mythic". If you click that the page with the One-Page Mythic will change to be more printer friendly.

Hmmm.... I'm interested in the one-page emulator... This is also the first time I have heard about a second edition coming out. Will you also, by any chance, update the deck?

Yes! After second edition comes out, I plan to make two decks supporting it. The first is going to be a reference deck, putting all the charts and tables onto cards for easier use with mobile devices, apps, and in person. Then I'll be doing a new Mythic GME Deck.

Sounds awesome! Any ETA for the various projects?

The order for upcoming projects is this: Mythic GME 2e, Mythic Magazine Compilation #4, Mythic GME 2e Reference Cards, Mythic GME 2e Deck.

While that's not an ETA it gives an idea when they will appear. My guess would be about a month between each of them.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
