The Journey Should Matter
5e, and really any edition of the game, has a problem with how boring and inconsequential the travel component of the game is by its very design. Take a walk, take a long rest. The alternative is the hexcrawl which is an interesting gamestyle that might also benefit from some simple changes that make the actual act of traveling something the characters must contend with.
