A strange sickness afflicts the frontier settlement of Holver's Ferry, threatening to overwhelm its citizens with an alien madness. Already the town has nearly torn itself apart, and the local sheriff is missing. When the PCs brave the surrounding wilderness as the village's latest newcomers, the beleaguered townsfolk desperately turn to them for assistance. But can these erstwhile heroes trace the diseased carrier to its source and solve the mystery before they, too, succumb to The Assimilation Strain?

The Assimilation Strain is an introductory adventure for Pathfinder Second Edition which can be played as a standalone adventure for 1st-level characters or as a prelude to the Legendary Planet Adventure Path, introducing heroes from any fantasy world to the cosmic threat of alien invaders from beyond who see nothing on this planet but another world to conquer. The adventure blends exploration and negotiation alongside elements of horror and a desperate battle to survive against a foe bent on their enslavement or extermination. The interplanetary adventure continues with the sequel adventure, To Worlds Unknown, launching your heroes into a fantastic universe of exotic pulp adventure! The sword and planet genre comes to life on Legendary Planet!

I have purchased the entire Legendary Planet saga for Starfinder including the Player's Guide. However, unlike every other game system 5e, PF 1e and PF 2e, there is no Assimilation Strain introductory campaign for Starfinder. Why is Starfinder left out in the cold?

PUBLISHER
The Assimilation Strain is explicitly designed as a "bait and switch" prologue adventure to take characters from a "fantasy" world into a sci-fi campaign when the main adventures begin in To Worlds Unknown. Since you're already in a sci-fi campaign in Starfinder, there was no need to have that kind of on-ramp. You just leap right into the action with To Worlds Unknown (which was rewritten in the opening section to be for 1st level characters instead of 2nd level).

Thinking about getting this, but my group has moved on to PF2E. Will the rest of the series be seeing an "upgrade" to 2E, or will we need to do the conversion ourselves if we move onto the main story?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
