Contagion Savage Edition
von Franz A.
Verlag: Aegis Studios

Contagion Savage Edition I bought Contagion Savage Edition because I am a fanboy of the Savage Worlds system and I just love the World of Darkness setting and, at a first glance at the preview, Contagion looked like an interesting mashup of the two - by the way: why there have been so few attempts to "savage" the WoD (read: monsters as player charatcers) while we have about 200+ zombie apocalypse settings is beyond me. First thing I read is the character creation chapter and Contagion almost exclusively relies on stock SW rules with some suggested additions taken from both Horror and Fantasy companions, which to me is a good thing: no need to reinvent the wheel. The only relevant exception is the introduction of Contagion Points, which are a new Derived Stat that the characters can spend to do some fancy things like alter rolls, use racial powers/edges, temporary ignore shaken/damage, and so on. Didn't try the mechanic on the field yet but sounds cool. The character "races" available to the player are ma...

Ultimate Herbalism (PFRPG Edition)

Verlag: Interjection Games
Hinzugefügt am: 03/14/2017 12:27:44
Ultimate Herbalism (PFRPG Edition) **Disclaimer:** I received a copy of this product as one of the rewards for backing the Strange Magic 2 kickstarter. I did not pay the price you'd be paying here, but I did pay for this product. Ultimate Herbalism is part of a new series of systems by Interjection Games, following on the fun of systems like Ethermagic, Composition Magic, and Truenaming. Now, those who have bought from Interjection Games in the past will know that Bradley Crouch is a systems guy - and being honest, I love new systems. These are the sorts of things that truly change the feel of a character, helping to make them distinct and memorable. Now, this product itself is a 162-page PDF, with a full-color cover page and numerous pieces of colored artwork sprinkled throughout. At the time of writing, only a PDF version is available, but it's my understanding that physical copies are likely to be available at a future point. Aside from the generous amount of art, this product is essentially solid content - it ...

Weird New World An Endzeitgeist.com review This module/sandbox clocks in at 62 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, leaving us with 60 pages of content, though these pages are formatted for the A5 (6'' by 9'' booklet)-size, which means you can pretty easily fit 4 pages of content on one sheet of paper when you're printing this out. All right, so this represents pretty much one of the experiences where I got a book merely for completion's sake. The title "Weird New World" did not appeal to me and neither did the cover...but I am very much happy that I did get this book. So, what is this? In short, it is a depiction of a fantastic version of Antarctica or a similarly icy environment - and I mean "beyond Norse sphere of culture"-level icy environment. As in polar nights and days. And while I was reading through this book, I realized...that I had never seen this angle attempted in an RPG-supplement. Basically, this adventure's goal, if you want to put it that bluntly, is for the PCs t...

Village Backdrop: Kingsfell

Village Backdrop: Kingsfell An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of RSP's Village Backdrop-series is 11 pages long, 1 page front cover, 2 pages of advertisement, 1 page editorial/ToC, 1 page SRD and 1 page back cover, leaving us with 5 pages of content, so let's take a look at the settlement! Kingsfell can be found in a strategically important area upstream from vast saltmarshes, acting as a base and gateways for the brave souls that venture into the harrowing territory under the stern and benevolent auspice of paladin Mira Lankinen. Situated atop a location of a massacre in ages long past, the dead do not rest easily here, as their pain and hatred is slowly seeping into the populace...how long can the righteous rule of the paladin withstand this seeping corruption? The first thing you'll notice would be that the village, this time around does come once again with proper PFRPG settlement statblock rules, which is a big plus as far as I'm concerned. Similarly, the site comes with a nice settlement q...

Players Guide to Whispers of the Dark Mother Adventure Path

Players Guide to Whispers of the Dark Mother Adventure Path An Endzeitgeist.com review This Player's Guide for the "Whispers of the Dark Mother"-series clocks in at 16 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial/ToC, 2 pages of SRD, 1 page advertisement, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 10 pages of content. It should be noted that a nice full-color map of the area featured in the AP is included between SRD and back cover. The modules takes place in the nation of Bryndell, defined by the worship of ancestral heroes and begins in the town of Brighton, a relatively busy little trade-hub (and available for free if you require further details!). With such a background, it should not come as a surprise that seasonal adventurers, common folks taking up swords instead of plowshares, are not uncommon - but the relatively open nature of the environment also mean that characters from other backgrounds can relatively easily fit in within the story to be told. The pdf also provides from the get-go a relatively concise overview of the common knowle...

Whiplash Trigger Set One: Gunslingers I've tried other cardstock miniatures and these one are the best by far. The others have a sandwichboard, or worse, a trifold system but the Whiplash set can be cut out, mountred on foamcore and end up looking remarkably like regular minis. I can print, cut, and mount a dozen of these in less than half the time it takes to paint a single 3d mini. Give 'em a try.

Paths of Power

Paths of Power As you open the document you are treated to an attractive possibly corrupted female mage with what appears to be a Gollum-like creature on a leash. Good start as it is shown clearly through the image what you expect Paths of Power to be about. The lower half offers an introduction as to what the new series will be about. Reading that it will offer new options, enhancements, and updates to some of my favorite paths in the game is one of the main reasons I purchased the product. I absolutely love the sorcerer and spellbinder and couldn't wait to see what I could do with them now. Towards the end it introduced the occultist, a new expert path for characters that dives head first into the use of dark magic with less penalty for learning dark traditions and their spells. The new path is very attractive. I can't wait to design some villains or tormented souls using evil for good reasons. This class is also what appears to be what the female on the front cover is seeing as you level u...

Asian Archetypes: Magical Solid Set up. Full of lore and some good stuff to be had. They could have added a few strong mechanic archetypes for classes that could use an eastern mechanic boost. Pros: Flavor, themetical correct, covers a lot of classes. Cons: light on mechanic boosts. Sometimes the rule of cool isn't enough for a GM.

Miracle Stone of the Amazon

Miracle Stone of the Amazon This is a very nice scenario that could serve as an introduction to HEX or as part of an ongoing campaign. It features a trip to a lost city in the Amazon that could serve as the story of any classic Indiana Jones or Lost World-like movie. It will probably take two to three sessions to complete. Its 28 pages contain about one page of front matter, 20 pages of adventure description, 2 pages for a new archetype character sheet and 5 pages for "Faith and Miracles", basically rules for a certain type of divine spellcasters. This is a preliminary review after reading but before having played the scenario. Spoilers ahead! The adventure starts with the assassination of a former explorer living in Rio de Janeiro. What follows is a chase after the assassin (who is about to be assassinated), then some investigation before the expedition to Amazonia starts. This is the main part of the adventure and includes various obstacles and a few surprises. Finally, the characters are going to arri...

OpenQuest 2 Deluxe

Hinzugefügt am: 03/13/2017 15:06:48
OpenQuest 2 Deluxe After years of hearing rave reviews I FINALLY bought a copy of Openquest. I'm basing the review on a quick read through... not actual play. **Things I like about it:** It's descended from Runequest and Call of Cthulhu and the general BRP family of D100 games. Some of my favorite RPGs share that lineage. So that's a big plus right from the start. Openquest's system sits on the lighter end of the spectrum RPGs. Its author's intent is that it be fast and versatile, and from what I've seen so far, it is. That should make it easier to teach to newbies and faster to just 'pick up and play', as the book puts it. I also like the writing. It's got that clear, friendly, and conversational tone that makes me feel at home while I'm learning a game. Like I can put my feet up on the coffee table and raid the fridge if I want to. No golden tablets of truth being passed onto mere mortals here... the designer WANTS you to make the game your own. Everything is very clearly explained, with e...
