The Darkness in Shadowturrets (Master)
von Thomas V.
Verlag: Schwalb Entertainment
Hinzugefügt am: 08/18/2016 05:15:34
The Darkness in Shadowturrets (Master) WARNING : MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. Along with the spectacular SoTDL rulebook and sourcebooks, Schwalb Entertainment released a ton of short adventures to support the game, their level of quality varying wildly from good to truly embarrassing. Since I'm an asshole, I'm going to start with one of the bad ones. The Darkness in Shadowturrets' (TDiS) core plot isn't all bad. There's this abandonned keep that has been taken over by invaders from another dimension and their necromantic creations are now running amok in the country. Of course, the local potentate wants the PCs to go and check it out, which doesn't score high for originality but it works. Along the way, they cross a couple of destroyed villages and fights some monsters. This brings us 3 pages in the document and then things take a turn for the worse. The last 5 pages describe what is quite probably the worst professionnal attempt at a dungeon I've come across in more than twenty years of gaming. Every room as ONE way i...

Master of Forms Expanded - Shadow and Darkness

Master of Forms Expanded - Shadow and Darkness An Endzeitgeist.com review This expansion for the absolutely AWESOME Master of Forms base class clocks in at 16 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page SRD, leaving us with 14 pages of content, so let's take a look! The master of forms class is a genius elemental martial arts system that provides diverging tricks, with each element playing differently...so, how does the new element shadow fare? Well, for one, the master of forms in the shadow stance immediately enters an element's stance when performing a non-shadow form, allowing for the flexible transition from shadow to another element. The pdf contains two secret arts associated with shadow: All-encompassing shadows lets him choose three wild card forms for which he meets prerequisites and perform them as though he knew them. Withdrawing shadows lets the master steal the shadow of a creature within 60 feet, requiring Will-saves to perform supernatural abilities or cast spells - on a failure, the target loses its action! Damn cool...

The Genius Guide to the Talented Bard

Hinzugefügt am: 08/18/2016 04:19:46
The Genius Guide to the Talented Bard An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of Rogue Genius Games' Talented class-series clocks in at 38 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page ToC, 1 page editorial, 2 pages of SRD, leaving us with 33 pages of content, so let's take a look! In case you're new to the concept: Talented classes basically dismantle archetype abilities and base class abilities and codify them according to two categories: Edges for major abilities, talents for less powerful abilities. This does mean that you can cherry-pick exactly the type of class you want, but it also means that you need to be more proficient at creating classes. The talented bard class, chassis-wise, gets d8 HD, 6 + Int skills per level, 3/4 BAB-progression and proficiency with simple weapons plus longsword, sap, short sword, shortbow and either scimitar or rapier. They are proficient with light armor and shields and may cast bard spells while wearing light armor and shields sans spell failure chance. Regarding progression,...

Village Backdrop: Thornhill System Neutral Edition

Village Backdrop: Thornhill System Neutral Edition An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment in Raging Swan's Village backdrop-series is 11 pages long, 1 page front cover, 2 pages advertisement, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD, 1 page back cover, leaving us with a total of 5 pages of content for the village of Thornhill, so let's take a look! The village of Thornhill is situated at the border of a vast marsh, to be more precise on an island encircled by deep, sluggish waters and surrounded by an ancient, yet formidable stockade of old timbers - the only access point to the village being one bridge. At least without access to boats! We get 8 short entries of notable folks, describing the dramatis personae of the village before we're introduced to 10 notable locations in the village. It should be noted that a lizardfolk cleric living at a nearby island is considered to be a part of the village as well as a guardian of what the lizardfolk consider to be a holy site. A general note on features of the village, its worn wooden ca...

Miracles of the Solar Exalted
von Werner V. V.

Miracles of the Solar Exalted Miracles of the Solar Exalted is about 40 pages of some fluff and more Charms (powers) for the your characters. It's in no way required to play, but it does add a few charms that enable different builds. There's some awesome art, and the Charms are cool and evocative. To me, it's a no-brainer for anyone that enjoys Exalted and wants more powers.

Exalted 3rd Edition

Exalted 3rd Edition I've been playing Exalted for several years now, starting with Second Edition, and it's the only game I come back to every time. To me, it's everything I want an RPG to be, with cool story and epic heroes. Second edition had issues, and so comes Third Edition. Now, the game reborn, with all new mechanics. The writers have challenged every assumption, changed everything that didn't work. There's still a few things that could work better, but I think the good vastly outweights the bad. However, I should note that this game isn't for everyone: it's for people who enjoy playing really powerful (but not overpowered) characters. If that's not your cup of tea, Exalted might not be for you....

Miracles of the Solar Exalted Other than finding the Apocryphal Keyword exasperating (prospective buyers, don't worry, it has no mechanical effect!) I really enjoy this product. For any who are interested in having access to more fun tools as a player or as a storyteller for Solars, these are a must have, and John's commentary on each charm is an interesting read. The whole thing comes with a little bonus, in that in the very beginning there is a bit of fluff describing the Exaltation, Lunar Mates and a few other things that are very interesting, also making this a good product for its price for anyone who is interested in the lore of Exalted in the 3rd Edition....

Clockwork: Dominion Core Rulebook
von Timothy O.
Verlag: Reliquary Game Studios
Hinzugefügt am: 08/18/2016 00:08:51
Clockwork: Dominion Core Rulebook This is a full-bodied world, and it is beautiful. Love that the creation of the world (the entire universes, actually) is tied into the glory and sickened parts of the present state of Earth's existance at the present time, which is the late 1800s. Strange scientific discoveries (many of which come from our real world) are allowed to flower in full bloom in Victorian British society. This help create a unique and fascinating world. Adding a steam punk element is seamless, and makes sense. Everything you need to start a journey in this world is layed out in a very well written book. The artwork is gorgeous. You learn about the history and the world, right up to the present time. It is well detailed, engrossing, and immerses you completely. Character development, n.p.c. creation, creatures, sciences, magic, and mystery are all explained in an easily digestible, understandable way. This system uses cards instead of dice, which is refreshing and a bit more organic in how pla...

Cryptomancer

Cryptomancer Cryptomancer is a fantasy setting where information and security networks and their manipulation thereof is a core concept. This will be a lengthy review so you may want to grab something to drink before we start. We will go over Setting, Mechanics, just what Cryptomancy really is, and lastly my honest opinion of the book and game itself. For those who are more interested in the games title, I recommend skipping right to the Cryptomancy section right away. **Setting**: think of Shadowrun but in the middle ages meets Burn Notice meets Turn: Washington’s spies. You have dwarves Clan halls that are cut deep into the ground with underground railways and tunnels connecting them throughout the land. The elves are kings of the forest and the forest is king of the land. This primordial forest is every growing threatening to swallow any human settlements that were hacked into it. Only the strongest of City-states can keep the forest at bay. Menacing all of these are Gnolls, Orcs,...

Savage Rifts: The Tomorrow Legion Player's Guide I was on the fence about getting a book for a setting I had no personal connection with, but I regret nothing. I'm not sure if I'll be running Rifts, but it's contents basically make it one of the must have books for Savage Worlds, just like the Sci Fi Companion and the Fantasy Companion.

Grippli: Playable Amphibians (5e)

Grippli: Playable Amphibians (5e) Disclosure: I received a review copy of this product. Grippli: Playable Amphibians is an 8 page product with 4 pages of content for one of my favorite non-core races. The formatting is professional, and there is some colored art of adventurous Grippli that could easily be used to make tokens for those playing on a Virtual Table Top. The fluff in the product is in point, detailing Grippli society values and structure, as well as their overall relationships with core races most likely to be their allies. Each subrace comes with a potential adventure hook, which can serve as inspiration for a grippli character, or a good way for a DM to not only introduce Grippli into his campaign but also have the players excited to interact with them. Regarding the crunch in the product, my favorite aspect is how Grippli are excellent explorers. All Grippli are talented swimmers, and while only one subrace is a natural climber, all Grippli are capable of astounding leaps. They are also gi...

Hinzugefügt am: 08/17/2016 12:04:53
High Guard What's Traveller without, well, some travelling... especially in space? High Guard is designed to provide a toolbox to empower every aspect of spacefaring in your game from designing and operating starships to using them in spectacular combat. The Introduction begins by explaining where the name 'High Guard' comes from in the first place - it refers to a vessel standing overwatch in a position that is higher in a gravity well than other ships. That's a useful place to be, as if combat should take place when under the influence of a planet's gravity (or indeed that of any object in space) it's advantageous to be higher in it than your opponent. Harking back to the age of sail, one would speak of having the 'wind guage' when in a position where the wind conferred an advantage - here it's the 'gravity guage' instead, but a very similar concept. Other topics explored in the Introduction cover terminology, the various types of space navies to be encountered - Imperial, subsector and p...

X9 The Savage Coast (Basic) This title is the one I've been waiting to drop for far too long. I consider it one of those BEMCI modules that were part of my "formative years" admist the Satanic Panic of the 80s. A great scan. While in the intervening decades since I first purchase this in High School, much of the criticism about X9's "slog through the wilderness" I find to be tempered by the setting X9 develops.
