Grimm: Core Rulebook

Grimm: Core Rulebook I love the idea. I love this game's world and its inhabitants. Linear d6 system is also cool. However, now that I'm about to lead a Grimm game, I found what I don't love. The thick maze of intertwined trait advantages and disadvantages, requiring to have read and memorized a lot of the book. Without a concise guidance for newcomers. Will have to make a lot of notes to avoid being lost in the seemingly simple rules. But I'll do it, the game is worth the effort. Damn, maybe I should write a beginner's manual for this game later on?...

OWB010: OWB: Tactical Combat This is a great addition to the already great Operation Whitebox line of products. A detailed supplement detailing anything one needs to know for running Combat involving small scale squads to larger. Includes movement in difficult terrain, crawling and sneaking along etc. Any rule you can think of for a war-based game is here. The supplement has good graphics detailing the use of "minis" if you play that style and also enough details to strictly play "Theater of the Mind". A list of weapons and vehicles and their usage. Overall a A+....

Maximum Xcrawl: Powered by Pathfinder An Endzeitgeist.com review This massive hardcover clocks in at 155 pages, 151 if you take away editorial, ToC, etc. This review is based on the hardcover of the book, namely the Swimsuit Edition 2014, which comes with a nice wrap-around variant cover. This book was moved up in my review-queue due to me receiving a print version of this book. All righty, so first things first: What is Xcrawl? If you haven't seen this unique setting/playstyle, then let me enlighten you: On one hand, the proceedings take place in an allotopia, an alternate world akin to ours, though it also borrows from near-future/cyberpunk as well as fantasy. What do I mean by this? Well, the setting itself is one wherein dwarves, elves etc. all live with us on the planet, and one where magic is real. The focus, for the purpose of this book, lies on the United States, or rather, the North America Empire, the analogue within the realms of Xcrawl. The world itself is not one suffused with a plethora of high-tech, ...

Crimson Heroes: Pregenerated Characters An Endzeitgeist.com review This collection of pregens for the classic Curse of the Crimson Throne AP clocks in at 34 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 2 pages of introduction, 1 page ToC, 1 page SRD, 1 page advertisement, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 26 pages of content, so let's take a look! All right, so first things first: The characters herein have been created with a 20-pt.-buy method, but for GMs and groups enjoying the added challenge, scaling notes for 15-pt.-buy characters can be found - nice! The presentation follows the by now tried and tested (and really nice) way of the pregen-books released by Legendary Games: We have a gorgeous full-color artwork for each of the characters, alongside a quote that represents the respective characters. It should also be noted that fold-up paper minis for all characters can be found herein. Now, let's take a look at the characters and start with Ardimaius Trente - and a brief glimpse at the character will tell ...

5E Mini-Dungeon #031: Dwarven Dread An Endzeitgeist.com review This pdf clocks in at 2 pages and is a mini-dungeon. This means we get 2 pages content, including a solid map and all item/monster-stats hyperlinked and thus, absent from the pdf, with only deviations from the statblocks being noted for the GM. Unlike most 5E Mini-Dungeons, this one does not come with VTT-maps or player-friendly iterations, which is a bit of a bummer. Since this product line's goal is providing short diversions, side-quest dungeons etc., I will not expect mind-shattering revelations, massive plots or particularly smart or detailed depictions, instead tackling the line for what it is. Got that? Great! This being an adventure-review, the following contains SPOILERS. Potential players may wish to jump to the conclusion. ... .. . Still here? All right! It can always get worse. This simple premise is represented in many an experience, many a module - and here, it is represented by the duergar. Evil and loathsome t...

DDAL06-01 A Thousand Tiny Deaths (5e) A fun dungeon crawl with some decent combat encounters, especially a boss fight that can be very lethal to a part of level 1's. I just wish it was a little longer and had some more opprotunities for roleplay. Still, I would recommend this adventure, and I would advise running it for the targeted level of characters, as it might be a little too harsh for level 1's, especially if they are first-time players.

Blood and Bone I played a Blood and Bone campaign with a few friends, and I can honestly say that this system and world is fantastic. I highly recommend that everyone who is a fan of d20 systems to give this a try. Characters do not have classes and instead are able to acquire whichever upgrades that help flesh out their character. Upgrades include anything from having higher chances to intimidate someone, remembering how to lock/unlock any lock you have already picked, cleaving through enemies with huge weapons, or gaining the ability to raise the dead. You can make pretty much any interesting character with these abilities, and they all have a dramatic effect on your gameplay and strategy. The system also has a great method for gaining proficiency in skills. Every level, you are able to gain proficiency in new skills or increase your proficiency in your current skills. Instead of gaining flat modifiers to your rolls, you instead roll additional proficiency dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12) along wi...

DDAL05-02 The Black Road (5e) Overall I liked this adventure, but there were some flaws in the plot that I found troublesome. Pros: -Good mix of role play, exploration, and combat challenges; the "non combat" encounters help keep the focus on the goal, not the combats, and thought has been given to those parties who seek non combat resolutions when possible. -several places where player choices affect the plot beyond the immediate encounter, and a nice flowchart to see how the various paths the authors envision the players taking; more options than I seen in any other AL module, although my experience is limited. -In the "skill challenge" encounter, the authors brainstormed a wide range of possible responses to the presented threat, which I appreciated. (But....see below) -I appreciated the inclusion of an "optional" encounter, flagged to skip if time was short. (Im my case it was because we had a late start and a hard stop time.) -Hooks for every faction and the factionless. Cons: -Major narrative pr...

DDIA05 Storm King's Thunder: A Great Upheaveal (5e) I Dmed this adventure on fantasy grounds for a group that I normally play in . I thought it was laid out nicely, very informative for a new DM and easy to use. I had the use of maps that were part of the module, which worked out great for those early big battles. There was a lot of areas that the players could RP, which was nice to always having to slash and gash everything they saw. I feel that it was a great transition into a lot of the tier 2 modules.

DDAL05-13 Jarl Rising (5e) On the whole a decent adventure, nice variety in encounters with a few to hold in reserve if you are not short of time (although it is spelled out clearly that running extra encounters gives no extra rewards). My only quibble is the 'Challenge of Blots Notes' section is in part 3, it should have been at the start of part 2, having it in part 3 is illogical. I would run this adventure again, it gives a nice lead in to the final tier 2 adventure Hartkillers Horn (DDAL05-17)

DDAL05-11 Forgotten Traditions (5e) Absolutely excellent adventure! Plenty of options as there are numerous traps and encounters that can be used as alternatives for the ones in the standard adventure, the traps are particularly good, my party failed to find any of them and suffered greatly! The encounters offer plenty of variation and are well thought out. For the more lore/rp based party I could see this adventure running VERY long as it is chock full of the history of the giants, but it also works well for a more dungeon crawly type of party. The fina lecounter is VERY tough for a party at the lower end of the level scale, I had to back off a bit otherwise they would not have survived. First rate!...

Jaunt: The Trickle The design is wonderful, but the technical layout is crippling -- the whole dungeon is on one "page" but that page has been extended to roughly 6 _times_ the normal length of a portrait page. the PDF is 32 meg per "long page" so my pdf viewer (skim on OSX) is dying under the load of rendering even one page of this. I hoped that I could just print it and be done with digital problems, but since the dungon's page is abnormal ratio, I have the option of either having a natural zoom/ratio picture of the middle 20%, or rescaling it down to fit, resulting in an unreadable strip of art down the middle. #### Note to Author If you reformat it to make it usable, such as either of the following, I'll update my review. (The art deserves 5 stars) 1. pdf with print-friendly page dimensions 2. a jpg per dungeon (if you can't abide nasty page breaks in the art. This would allow client-side rendering to adapt to circumstances in a way the pdf format was designed to _not_ do.) ...

INDEX CARD RPG Core Set

INDEX CARD RPG Core Set Simply put: buy this game. The rules are so simple yet robust that player and GM will wonder why it hasn't been done this way before. The digital version comes with mini's (paper print-outs), online tokens, rules, two unique world primers (Fantasy and Sci-Fi), small monster manual, and the now legendary Game Master section. This section alone is worth the price of admission. The system is regularly updated by the creator (updates to digital version free to those who purchased through DTRPG) and the Google+ community is simply incredible to find inspiration, help and groups to play with. This is a Core RULES Set; it does not include the Vol 1, 2 or 3 card decks just as those do not contain rule sets. You do not require the card Volumes to play this game (my group uses crafted sets). That being said, all card Volumes are highly recommended as well for table-top and online play as the art is fantastic and help in story creation. Is it perfect? Probably not. But I will say ...
