The Legacy Weapon - A Dungeon World Artifact and One Shot

The Legacy Weapon - A Dungeon World Artifact and One Shot Heard about this on Misdirected Mark and Discern Realities podcasts. A fantastic idea implemented very well, the kind of fiction I like often focuses on some specific character arcs I don't often get to experience in a group dynamic, this allows for that goal wonderfully. The layout looks great, professional, clean, and great implementation of a design goal I am excited about.

RMS Titanic: The Millionaire's Special

RMS Titanic: The Millionaire's Special OK, we all know that the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank on her maiden voyage... but what else was going on? In this adventure, the Investigators - all travelling aboard and in First Class, no less - meet a gentleman who has a mummy (the Egyptian sort) that he's going to donate to an American museum but is eager to show it off to anyone who is interested. There's a legend that anyone who looks at this particular mummy's face is doomed, but that's all a silly superstition, isn't it? The background for the Keeper explains how the being doomed stuff is not quite as silly as it sounds (with a little bit of help from the Mythos, of course) and provides a spine for the adventure. This begins with a luncheon date with the mummy's owner and ends (naturally) with a certain iceberg... There's some interesting background on the trans-Atlantic trade of the time, and a quite detailed timeline of the Titanic's voyage. Rather neatly, all the encounters and events of the adventure are included in t...

Mythic Magic: Intrigue Spells

Mythic Magic: Intrigue Spells An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of the Mythic Magic-series clocks in at 32 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD, 1 page ToC, 2 pages of introduction, 1 page advertisement, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 24 pages of content, so let's take a look at this book! So, at this point, you probably are familiar with what these books by now - if not, the pitch is simple: We get mythic versions of all spells contained in Ultimate Intrigue and thus, we begin with an alphabetic list of the spells featured within this book. However, there is an important paradigm shift in this book, courtesy of the changed design paradigm Paizo introduced back in Occult Adventures and continued in Ultimate Intrigue. You see, the adaptations of spells in earlier hardcovers have been somewhat different in tone and focus; numerical bonuses and damage types, as a whole, obviously lend themselves to an adaptation to mythic adventure contexts based on numerical escalation; you ge...

Animal Races: Clan of the Goat An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of the Animal Races-series clocks in at 13 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 2 pages SRD, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 8 pages of content, so let's take a look! The clan of the goat encompasses more than goats; sheep etc. are included...and the pdf has some intriguing cultural peculiarities - the clans know, for example, 4 genders, with pregnant females and infertile males being their own genders. Similarly, to wear or not to wear shoes is an important ideological statement! It is these little tidbits that make sense, that make these come to life! Muskox are mostly neutral, sheep mostly good and lawful and goats mostly evil and chaotic, tapping into the iconography of real world religions and blending them in a smart way with the race's flavor. Members of the clan of the goat, these guys are medium humanoids with the faun subtype, gain low-light vision and a +1 natural AC-bonus that increases to +2 at 10th level....

Village Backdrop: Lanthorn (SNE) An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of RSP's Village Backdrop-series is 11 pages long, 1 page front cover, 2 pages of advertisement, 1 page editorial/ToC, 1 page SRD and 1 page back cover, leaving us with 5 pages of content, so let's take a look at the settlement! Lanthorn is a peculiar settlement - named for the magical lanterns set atop its gates, the perpetually-shrouded village is situated under a massive overhang in Kuldor Pass, where winters are long and cruel and summers but brief. Heavily defended and fortified, the settlement controls traffic through the pass and represents a gateway to the untamed wilderness beyond. Governed by a conclave of powerful wizards with an economy fueled by adventurers and fortune-seekers commissioning magic items, the village also is home to a thoroughly atypical tribe of matriarchal goblins the Flaming Skull tribe, who also act as the village's miners, digging strange and potent metals from the earth for their eldritch masters. The Perilous Wilds Survival Kit Very disapointed by the presented templates. There's even pages with only a title and lines to write on. The layout of pages is not esoecially nice. The only somehow correct templates are for Steadings (half a page, the rest is plain lines) and Follower records (1/3 of a page, repeated 3x to fill a full page). I feel this is material that should have been included with Perilous Wilds or given for free. I regret buying this. It's a shame because Perilous Wilds is such a great book.

Dragons: 2.5D Model Kit **These dragons are cheaper than dice.** This is a good product. The completed minis look amazing. The art style is fantastic and original and really eye-catching, with vivid colors that don't look washed-out from across the table. The dragons look great on the battlefield, or just as a decoration perched on your table. Considering the high quality of the art and the cleverness of the 2.5-D build, the price is an incredible bargain, at about sixty cents per dragon for the pdf, plus printing cost. The minis are easy to cut out, and easy to assemble. They require no special tools: Although a hobby knife is best, I tried using scissors and a glue stick and ran into no problems. The cheap cost of printing combined with how easy they are to build means that you could easily give the dragon away to one of the players at the end of the night as a memento or trophy. There are some areas where this product could be improved: pdf layers would be very much appreciated, but there are...

A lovely addition to any gamers library.

Swords of Strange Aeons Swords of Strange Aeons is an Ultra-light RPG where the mechanics of the game take a back-seat to the narrative. While the game itself was designed with the presumption of familiarty with RPGs on the players' end, I feel that those new to the hobby could pick this game up quite easily as it is not bogged down by 300 overwhelming and intimidating pages of rules, setting, backstory, pantheons, spells, equipment and adventure hooks. That being said, Swords of Strange Aeons does appeal to me as a veteran roleplayer for a few reasons. Firstly, the lack of a major ruleset gives players and gamemasters alike a huge amount of creative freedom. This comes in especially handy when running a campaign that has big ideas, but lacks a good system to support those ideas. Secondly, the ease of which an action is resolved makes the game flow better and de-railing to look up ability descriptions and obscure rules happen far less often. And finally, the result of the die roll allows the player in q...

Cryptworld Why I do not like the game is because they didn't fix the key problem that old Chill had. Numbers often exceeded 100 in this percentile driven game. Basically you never miss or fail a skill roll unless the CM puts a difficulty on what you are doing. This makes more experienced players hindered because they are more experienced. The whole sequence of combat was something nobody did, is outdated, and should've been redone. This really feels like the intention was to just copy the old game and put it out as something revised. I loved Chill and wanted to love this but nothing was improved and everything taken out was missed. Basically 2nd edition will do just fine. Positive note: Nice getting the artist from the original Chill to do this....

Trail of Cthulhu: Flying Coffins This adventure takes us back to the First World War, to early 1918 with the Investigators as intrepid pilots in the British Royal Flying Corps. The German pilots seem unnaturally successful... and of course, Mythos creatures are behind it all. How will our brave aviators get on? The background material explains which Mythos creature is to blame - they're to be found in the atmosphere around 20,000 and resent these pesky impertenent humans in the flying machines intruding into 'their' airspace. At least they don't care if the intruders are British or German, they are annoyed by all of them! Or at least, not until one of the Germans paints a 'good luck' sign on his aircraft - unfortunately one suggested by a sorceror relative who showed him how to draw a Yellow Sign. The spine of the adventure is laid out, and with the help of no less a worthy as Arthur Conan-Doyle (currently working as a war correspondent) and the urging of Military Intelligence, the Investigators find themselves eng...
