Ryuutama : Natural Fantasy Roleplay

Ryuutama : Natural Fantasy Roleplay Ryuutama brings to life a different kind of game from the tired fantasy tropes that have been the norm in RPGs for years now. With the focus on the romance of traveling and the merry adventures that the adventurers encounter, Ryuutama delivers a refreshingly new experience to the table. I will admit that I did have early difficulty with the presentation of some of the information, especially early on, with some Traveler Classes and Ryuujin Types thrown at me up front without any context, but it’s a minor quibble. The artwork is gorgeous, and I wish there were more of it somehow. Combat looks tactical, without being bogged in the ammo-counting, hit-location identifying drudgery that detracts from the experience. Ryuutama is a Fantasy game, but it occupies its own niche, and does what it chooses to do very, very well. I would definitely recommend this to groups looking for something different, lighthearted and yet capable of being much more....

Pirates of the Western Ocean (Pathfinder RPG)

Pirates of the Western Ocean (Pathfinder RPG) Pirates have always had a fascination for role-players, so it's pretty much inevitable that some were going to turn up... The Introduction, however, takes a historical tack, starting with Viking raiders and going on to consider Barbary pirates of the Mediterranean as well as the Caribbean ones most often thought of when considering pirates for a fantasy role-playing game. It also introduces the historical concept of the privateer, a pirate licensed by his own government to wage proxy war on the ships of opposing nations. This provides a wide canvas, a range of suggestions beyond the norm on which to introduce pirates into your game. We start in Chapter 1: Lords of the Seas with copious details (including full stat blocks) of five notorious pirates encountered in the Western Ocean of the Midgard Campaign Setting. (If your game is set elsewhere, just tweak names and details to fit your needs.) This is followed by Chapter 2: Faces of the Western Ocean, which presents other NPCs who ply...

Path of War Expanded: Harbinger An Endzeitgeist.com review This pdf clocks in at 32 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD, 1 page advertisement, leaving us with 28 pages of content, so let's take a look, shall we? Before we dive into the analysis of this pdf, let me first make some things clear -I am not going to judge this pdf as per the power-level of the base game and instead take a look at it in the context of Path of War and its increased power-level -anything different would be rather ridiculous regarding an expansion to said system, after all. Conversely, this is not going to be a rehash of all my different takes on individual rules-decisions of Path of War that ultimately, to me, are unnecessary design-relics. If you're not familiar with the gripes I have with the base-system (and the opinions which diverged from mine on that, after all, I do not consider my reviews to be the only valid opinion!), you can read up on them in the extensive discussion on my site and certain boards. Monster Advancement: Enhanced Undead

Hinzugefügt am: 08/21/2015 02:59:45
Monster Advancement: Enhanced Undead An Endzeitgeist.com review The first installment of the monster advancement-series clocks in at 17 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 2 pages of SRD, leaving us with 13 pages of content, so let's take a look, shall we? So what do we have here? Essentially, this pdf provides one expanded, massive, extremely customizable templatey toolkit to enhance undead (d'uh), but with a focus of skeletal champions and zombie lords, thematically - so no, VtM-fans, you won't find a huge array of vampiric powers in here, though the modifications within this book are generic enough to be applicable to just about any undead - the primary focus (and thus mechanical execution) simply is different. Basically, the template provides one special quality per 3 points of CR, though capable GMs should have no issue playing with the pretty simple base mechanics. At the same time, though, novices are not left in the proverbial dark with the undead: Instead, what we have here, is a conci...

Mini-Dungeon #018: Neotomas' Paradise

Mini-Dungeon #018: Neotomas' Paradise An Endzeitgeist.com review This pdf clocks in at 2 pages and is a mini-dungeon. This means we get 2 pages content, including a solid map (alas, sans player-friendly version) and all item/monster-stats hyperlinked to d20pfsrd.com's shop and thus, absent from the pdf apart from any deviations from the linked base creature/NPC. Since this product line's goal is providing short diversions, side-quest dungeons etc., I will not expect mind-shattering revelations, massive plots or particularly smart or detailed depictions, instead tackling the line for what it is. Got that? Great! This being an adventure-review, the following contains SPOILERS. Potential players may wish to jump to the conclusion. Still here? All right! So, beggars have been vanishing and thus, it falls to the PCs to venture forth into the sewers to find them - and yes, they may contact a disease more horrible than filth fever here - which is a nice deviation from the tired "contract filt...

Star Fleet Battles: Cadet Training Handbook As an old star fleet battles player ,I got this to try out before I dove back into the full rules. The Crypts The Crypt is an awesome set of maps! They are well done and offer plenty of horror gaming opportunities! These are great maps at great prices with both PDF's for table top gaming and digital maps for VTT (Virtual Table Top) online gaming. If need be you can also print the poster maps out instead of the individual tiles, but you would need to find the right size to keep it to scale.

So, in case you're not 100% sure - yes, this is an April's Fools product. And yes, I'm reviewing it in August. Sad, but better late than never, right? So this begins with a basic, humorous introduction of poles - both in the game worlds and in real life. Let me go on a slight tangent here: If you do not know 10-foot-poles, they are perhaps the source of more anecdotes and prevented PC-death in old-school gaming than any other item. They also are the punch-line of more dirty jokes than rods of lordly might - and in case you're new school and never got see their awesomeness in action, take a look at 2 pages of long (and surprisingly viable!) suggestions on how to use these poles and potentially prevent your character's death - you'll never want to leave your home without your trusty pole. ...

The Dreams of Ruin
von Kevin C.
Verlag: TG Ventures Opportunity Vehicle I LLC
Hinzugefügt am: 08/20/2015 09:43:28
The Dreams of Ruin I was a backer of the Kickstarter for this project, and the final product justifies my choice. Dreams of Ruin is something rather singular of its kind- it's an "endgame"-level old-school nemesis-situation that takes the weird inner logic of early D&D perfectly straight and then applies it to something that's more or less the end of the world. It's exactly the sort of thing that could only be produced in this day and age, when even the most personal expressions of gaming interests can be launched into the world for widespread sharing. Why should you grab it? Because it's an apocalypse that tries very hard to maintain internal logic and coherence while cooperating directly with high-level D&D characters and their capabilities. The Dreams themselves are a nemesis that could be easily ported into other fantasy genres, but the way in which it's all been set up to mesh with ultra-high-level D&D adventurers and their abilities is really fascinating to behold. Nobody else is doing stuff lik...

World of Darkness: Changing Breeds
von John P. I.
Verlag: White Wolf
Hinzugefügt am: 08/20/2015 09:30:08
World of Darkness: Changing Breeds All in all, I'd call this average. Ok, more detail. Changing Breeds is an interesting expansion for WtF (Werewolf the Forsaken) in particular and the NWoD (New World of Darkness) in general. It introduces a wide variety of alternate beast shifters, with rules and options for adding to the list as needed/desired. The morality scale (Harmony) is interesting, and not far removed from its counterpart in WtF. And despite the criticism related to the environmentalist tones, I find that it is still less heavy handed about it than WtA (Werewolf the Apocalypse). As far as game balance goes... well, this IS part of a World of Darkness. Naturally some things tip the scales. And sometimes, the fluff doesn't quite seem to mesh with the stats... Now, for all of the praise I would have for the mechanics and options.... I match in scorn for the fluff. In places, it wanders into 'juvenile pretending to be mature', though thankfully rarely. The "there is no community, you are likely alone" f...

Zobeck Gazetteer (Pathfinder RPG)
von Megan R. [Fester Rezensent]
Verlag: Kobold Press
Hinzugefügt am: 08/20/2015 08:45:06
Zobeck Gazetteer (Pathfinder RPG) The Introduction opens with a key question: What is Zobeck? Seems a good place to start, and the text explains how Zobeck is one of the few places in Midgard not to have a feudal overlord since a revolt some 80 years ago kicked out the ruling family... not to mention that it's a trade hub and by all accounts a vibrant and exciting place to live in or visit. If you don't happen to use the Midgard campaign setting, a helpful sidebar explains, it will not take too much adaptation to locate Zobeck in your own game world instead. It's a town with a dark side, a teeming underbelly. It conducts trade primarily by river, and there's a deep, dark forest nearby. Inspiration includes middle Europe, a rich source widely ignored by fantasy game authors. Chapter 1: A History explains the genesis and growth of this city-state and how its main inhabitants - humans, dwarves, gearforged and kobolds - developed the relationships that they have today. First there were the Fey, who were tricked into a p...

Emperor Penguin - AoV Mastermind (M&M3e)
von Dominique S.
Verlag: Xion Studios
Hinzugefügt am: 08/20/2015 07:32:14
Emperor Penguin - AoV Mastermind (M&M3e) Like other entries in the Acts of Villainy line, Emperor Penguin contains a brief intro by the author, the full color illustration, info on his origin/background, brief overview of his abilities, a few other misc. bits of information to make it easier for GMs to integrate him into their games, and full stats for and power write-ups for 3rd Edition Mutants and Masterminds. Content wise, Emperor Penguin has got to be one of the most original villains I've seen for any gaming system, and that alone rates a couple of stars in my book. But that's not the only thing this release has going for it. He's got a very unusual, if not down right strange, strange, but well written backstory; some fun details on his personality; and details on his lair, as what master villain would be caught dead without one. But don't be fooled by his appearance, he's deadly, and heroes who take him lightly could find themselves in a bind very quickly. Of the various "Mastermind" villains released for this s...

Rogues, Rivals & Renegades: Fright Knight Fright Knight has to be one of the more interesting releases I've seen in quite a while. He's definitely not what I was expecting when I saw the preview artwork, and I don't want to spoil the surprise by giving away to much. I will say he's got a very interesting power set, and should make for some fun gaming when PCs encounter him. Especially when they assume certain things about him based on his looks. I'm giving this one 5 out of 5 stars, as I think both GMs and Players will really enjoy dealing with this guy. If nothing else, he'll keep your PCs guessing....
