DDAL06-01 A Thousand Tiny Deaths (5e)

DDAL06-01 A Thousand Tiny Deaths (5e) I thoroughly enjoyed running this module. While not superbly 1st level player/newbie friendly, it still provides a decent challenge. Plus it actually shows how the Kobolds actually fight. Not just a bunch of mobs trying to kill the players. Plus.... magic fart shrooms!

Paranoia Red Clearance Edition
por Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Mongoose
Fecha en que fue añadido: 05/29/17 12:15:18
Paranoia Red Clearance Edition Starting with the Player's Handbook we're confronted with the friendly invitation "Start with this book to become a proud throubleshooter of Alpha Complex". There's the air of one of those faintly embarrasing and over-eager corporate employee handbooks. The information is aimed at novice role-players and begins with an example of play... which ends up with everyone in soup. Why is anybody's guess. Perhaps we'll find out later. Next, the character sheet is explained, along with everything that goes on it. Each character's stats are Violence, Brains, Mechanics and Chuzpah; and these are used in combination with their Skills - they're listed with the appropriate Stat - when you try to do anything. That explained, we get down to the character creation process itself, with a neat system of group creation that pre-loads the party with tensions and links between individual characters. Everyone gets to choose their own name, appearance and gender (with a note that gender is basically immate...

Synthicide RPG I had the pleasure of playing this game at Gamex 2017 and really enjoyed it. It only uses a single d10 for all rolls and the mechanics were simple to pick up so we could hit the ground running in no time flat. I'm pretty sure the mission we played was the starter packet and it was an exciting entry to the world, with crazy shennanigans around every corner. If you're looking for a unique system that captures a gritty survival aesthetic in a far future galaxy this is the title for you.

Waterloo Style Buildings set 6mm

Waterloo Style Buildings set 6mm What a great set! I needed a couple of buildings for my portable wargame project. The buildings went together easily. After gluing everything, I realized they were supposed to be fold flat terrain. I can tell you , the fold flat for this size building is not necessary. They are small enough that space will not be an issue. I built 3 buildings but did not build the shed/extension yet. The graphics are high quality and the design is both simple to build yet very convincing on the tabletop. I've built several products from this publisher. I've been very happy with them. Highly recommended!...

Shadows of Midnight: West Milford, 4th Edition
por Mattias G.
Publisher: Alternate Realities Publications
Fecha en que fue añadido: 05/29/17 08:02:58
Shadows of Midnight: West Milford, 4th Edition Let's start with stating that this book (4:th edition) is poorly structured and directly confusing at parts from a GM perspective. The heading "Shadows of Midnight", for starters, features on the top of every page in a font very similar to a headline, which from an art direction constitutes an eye-sore. Fact is, the fonts of all sections are lesss than clear as to whether one is looking at a new chapter headline or a subheader for a section part of the same chapter. As an editor, I would have required the layout to be much clearer so that each locale was provided its specific chapter and headline (with GPS coordinates within parenthesis), and that the various "scenarios" / plot hooks at the end of each chapter should be graphically kept aside from the authentic descriptive texts of the chapter (perhaps by employing a black border or putting the plot hooks writing in italics?). The product would also have benefitted from devoting the first and bigger part of every chapter to the desc...

Bloody Basic - Sinew & Steel Edition
por Simon B.
Publisher: John M Stater
Fecha en que fue añadido: 05/29/17 07:37:42
Bloody Basic - Sinew & Steel Edition There is a great deal of fun to be had with *BB:SS *but it does not always succeed in its purpose. *BB:SS* offers a stripped down version of the D&D engine without a magic system. Magic systems are a notorious cause of rules bloat and are the bane of solo play, which requires mechanical consistency from the rules in order to differentiate gaming from daydreaming. *BB:SS*'s 'sinewy' combat feat system is much more useful. On the other hand this set is hobbled by an unintuitive approach to saving throws: notably the designer himself has abandoned the the *BB:SS* ST rules in his more recent *Blood & Treasure* 2nd edn. *BB:SS* also imposes a cap of sixth level on character advancement; the level cap has been a bugbear of 'basic' rules since Holmes Blue Book. The Armsman, however, is an exceptionally fun version of the Fighter to play. In the end I hacked *BB:SS* with elements of *Blood & Treasure* and *Bloody Basic: Weird Fantasy* - the 'out of the box' experiment failed, but in fruitful ...

Kolchak: The Night Stalker: The Lovecraftian Horror
por Mattias G.
Publisher: Moonstone
Fecha en que fue añadido: 05/29/17 07:08:53
Kolchak: The Night Stalker: The Lovecraftian Horror I'm gonna have to give it the full 5 stars. First of all, the illustrations are excellent both in terms of evocative style and in layout (one per page), which capture the horror feel better than nortmal cartoons. This is a proper graphic novel! Secondly, the text itself, delivered in a quintessential 50's / Dashiell Hammet type of Noir. Not the jumbled schizo lingo where different writers (or translators) have been brought in to provide piece-meal illustrations of the pictures, but as a consistent literary voice. It really brings the lead character, Kolchak, to life (perhaps even more so than the TV series?)! The one weaker point is perhaps the mystery at heart and the show down itself. Basically just another Innsmouth style raid into sea caves to machinegun deep ones. Then again I'm not that taken with Lovecraftian horror, but to me it was all the peripheral things (local colour and details) rather than the plot itself that kept up interest. Anyhoo, for 5 bucks, you should de...

O.L.D. The Fantasy Heroic Roleplaying Game
por Jeff C.

O.L.D. The Fantasy Heroic Roleplaying Game First off, I just have to say WOW!!! This book is amazing! I rarely give a Five Star review to anything, and this game earns it. In all fairness, no book is perfect, but I have very few things to point out that need to improve. As the author points out, fantasy rpg’s are a dime-a-dozen. This game attempts quite successfully to break the mold. Much like N.E.W., it leaves a lot of ground for specifications to the GM. In other words, it’s flexible, GM friendly, and easy to learn. Character creation can be done in minutes and the game is fairly new player friendly as well. I must confess, I originally bought the PDF along with another fantasy rpg on PDF just to save money. I will most definitely be coming back for the O.L.D. hardcover in the near future. The layout is quite impressive. The tables are easy to find. The artwork is outstanding- tasteful, fantasy inspired, and not trashy or tacky. Even the page borders and margins deserve many compliments for making the book a pleasure to l...

Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures
por Simon B.
Publisher: Flatland Games
Fecha en que fue añadido: 05/29/17 05:23:01
Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures *BTW* is two games in one. The headline game emulates a particular genre of low-fantasy fiction by deploying *Dungeon* *World*-style playbooks and a collaborative world-building mechanic. Under the bonnet lies a very intelligently house ruled D&D engine (the only real irritation is the old school five saving throw system). The stripped down rules can be hacked into low magic playstyles quite different from the assumed setting. *BTW* could work for Hyboria or, of all things, Glorantha - the three tier magic system looks a bit like spirit magic, Rune magic, and ritual magic if one squints. Some iPad users may be driven to distraction by Flatland's love of the .zip file....

Echelon Explorations: Polyhedral Pantheons

Echelon Explorations: Polyhedral Pantheons An Endzeitgeist.com review This supplement clocks in at 42 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page ToC, 2 pages blank after ToC and SRD, respectively (odd), 1 page back cover, 2 pages of SRD, 1 page reading "appendices" before the SRD, leaving us with 33 pages of content, so let's take a look! This was moved up in my review-queue as a prioritized review at the request of my patreons. So, what is this? Well, have you read Rose of the Prophet? No, well, all right: Basically, it is a system that defines deities and their values, if you will, as an interconnected geometrical shape - which also, by virtue of connections, situates neutral deities as a mix of good and evil -it is basically a way to generate a spatially-consistent model of a pantheon's abstract interactions and, by its spatial depiction, of contextualizing the deities thus. We have a system for pantheon-creation on our hands here, and one that has an intrinsic value as far as I'm concerned, but we...

Everyman Minis: The Skinsuit Ritual An Endzeitgeist.com review This installment of Everyman Gaming's minis-series clocks in at 7 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 3 pages of SRD, leaving us with 2 pages of content, so let's take a look! Okay, so first things first: This is an occult ritual. I assume that you have Occult Adventures on hand (If not...why?? It's literally one of the best books Paizo has ever made!) and thus know how occult rituals work. All righty, so, the ritual herein would be a level 8 and represents an evil polymorph effect. As befitting of a proper ritual, the materials required are delightfully exotic: Living steel buttons? hag's hair twine and boiled calamus root, licorice and lilacs? A sewing needle made from keketar bones? HECK YES, this breathes flavor in the components/focus line - big time. So, backlash is deadly - the ritual causes the hapless caster's skin to slough off...oh, and if you botch it, you may well be transformed by the 4d6 Cha drain into a doppelgänger. The ...

The Ytroth Larvae of the Scarsea Cliffs An Endzeitgeist.com review This module is system-neutral and clocks in at 2 pages - all content. Structure-wise, we have a basic 3 locations - each of which sports a brief read-aloud text, a more detailed elaboration of the respective area and then a couple of different dangers that the GM can use. Creatures are explained, with notes like "medium damage, high health", notes on "moves" and "impulses." Additionally, each of the 3 sections sports sample treasures (using gold standard, just fyi). All right, and this would be as far as I can go sans going into SPOILERS. Potential players should jump to the conclusion. ... .. . All right, only referees around? Great! Let me paraphrase a part of the setting the scene section: "To the South there are twisting, jagged ravines covering the barren earth like lashes on the back of a whipped prisoner. The lands provide no crops or lumber...[...]...Crawling up from the bowels of the earth are the chitinous and undulating Ytrot...

Ninth World Bestiary 2 This is a great addition with lots of new enemies to add to the game. I would give this a perfect score except my main gripe is they include some beasties from previous publications. It would have been nice to use that space for new creatures instead. Otherwise, I find this bestiary better than the first one.
