The Emerald Warlock is part of the Lost Classes range from the Devil?s Workshop / LPJ Design range of supplements that provide new prestige classes for D&D/D20 fantasy based on common fantasy (well, super heroic) archetypes. This supplement is six pages long (three after you drop the OGL and advertisement) and has a fairly clean layout with a single piece of art (in emerald green).
The Emerald Warlock is a spellcasting Prestige Class, the Emerald Warlock is part of an occult order that is secretly part of a world spanning group that maintains law and order. The Emerald Warlock has a very odd set of prerequisites, including an absurdly high Will save (+15!), a minimum level of spell casting competence and (strangely) a BAB low enough that if you meet any of the other prerequisites, you would meet it as well. The special component required to join is a quest to prove that the potential member is worthy that is a good idea, representing the character?s commitment to the order.
The abilities gained by the Emerald Warlock are: the symbol of their authority, a magic emerald lantern. Some additional spellcasting. But primarily, they gain the ability to manipulate the ?emerald energy? of the lantern into weapons, shields and other things. There are some good ideas here, but the execution is unclear and the role of the Emerald Warlock is ill-defined (full BAB and the ability to create melee weapons combined with D4 HD).
The Emerald Warlock has potential but the organization that they are tied to is left sketchy at best. No feats to enhance the Warlock?s ability to use their lantern are provided. In the end, this product feels unfinished and it will need considerable work to fit it into a campaign.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Disappointed
